Top 4 Japanese Restaurants In Watford According To Our Team

Hanako

First on our list is Hanako – a lovely little Japanese restaurant in Watford with a casual interior, a relaxed setting, and delicious traditional dishes. Although this place is a bit pricey, the food is really worth it.

We usually start off with either a Miso Soup with spring onion or a Miso Soup with mussels, Pork Gyoza and a Beef Tataki but if you don’t eat meat, they also have vegetarian options such as an Aubergne Miso Dengaku (grilled aubergine with sweet Miso paste) and Tofu Vegi Spring Rolls.

Main dishes include our favourite Sashimi, Nigiri, and plenty of other sushi options. They also have delicious Ramens such as a Chicken Soy Ramen Beef Miso Ramen as well as Thick Udon Noodles, Soba Noodles, Teriyaki dishes, Donburi, and Japanese Curry.

We are certain that no matter what your taste is, you will find your favourite Japanese food on their menu!

YO! Watford

Next on our list is a pretty popular chain restaurant with locations all over the UK but, of course, today we will focus on the one in Watford. This place is known for its sushi but they also have a lot of street food options on their menu some of which are traditional dishes and others are actually unique fusion dishes…

The interior is colourful and vibrant plus they have an open kitchen so you can take a look at how they prepare your order. Don’t forget to book a table in advance because usually, they are pretty busy.

Aside from their delicious sushi, we also want to focus on all the other dishes on their menu. For example, we highly recommend trying the Chicken Katsu Curry (with pickles, spring onions, rice), the Beef Teriyaki, the Spicy Seafood Ramen, and our faovurite – the Japanese Fried Chicken.

If you like gyoza you will be pleasantly surprised because they offer Chicken, Veggie, and even Teriyaki Gyoza.

Wagamama Watford

Next on our list is Wagamama – yet another popular chain restaurant with locations all across London and the UK. Although they have a lot of restaurants, this place is not considered a “fast-food chain” but is a very contemporary and stylish restaurant. We have previously talked about Wagamama but we love this place so much that we had to feature them on this list too. For sure, you have already visited if you are a huge Japanese cuisine lover.

Keep in mind that they do not serve sushi but are focused on other traditional Japanese food such as donburi and curry – and plenty of vegan options too!

We love the Chicken Ramen, the Chilli Steak Ramen, the Teriyaki Beef Donburi (with shredded carrots, seasonal greens, spring onion, sesame seeds, kimchee), and the Grilled Duck Donburi.

When it comes to dessert, they have as impressive options as their main dishes. We recommend the Banana Katsu (banana in panko breadcrumbs, miso caramel ice cream, and toffee sauce).

Tokyo Choice

And last on our list is Tokyo Choice – yet another popular place which is known for its incredible sushi!

From Maki Sushi, Sashimi, Nigiri, and plenty of Inside-Out Rolls such as their Salmon and Avocado Roll, Prawn Tempura Roll, Prawn Kastu Dragon, and California Roll, they have a lot of options you will love!

But aside from sushi, they have other lovely dishes. We really enjoy the Chicken katsu Curry, Salmon and Ikura Donburi, and the Sea Food Yaki Soba.

And definitely leave room for dessert because they have mochi – coconut, mango, passion fruit, and even raspberry mochi!
