Today, our team is going to share all of their favourite Turkish restaurants in Hitchin with you!

Bosphorus Restaurant

First on our list is Bosphorus – a lovely casual Turkish restaurant whose menu is filled with the most popular and loved Turkish traditional dishes – from starters to main dishes and desserts.

Starters include options like Babaganoush (charcoal-grilled aubergine, tahini, yoghurt, garlic, olive oil), Yaprak Sarma (vine leaves stuffed with rice, and herbs), Pan Fried Mussels (with white wine), and Falafel with Humus. They also have great salads such as the Feta Cheese Salad (with cucumber, tomato, parsley, feta cheese, olive oil, and lemon dressing).

Like any other Turkish restaurant, Bosphorus offer incredible charcoal-grilled meat and kebabs like Iskender
(lamb, bread, yoghurt, rice, a salad, special sauce, melted butter), Sarma Chicken Beyti (mince skewered chicken, a salad, rice, homemade bread, tomato sauce, yoghurt), Lamb Ribs, Adana Kofte, and Chicken Wings.

We also really enjoy their Fillet Seabass (with mashed potatoes and vegetables), the Deep-fried squid (with tartar sauce, chips, a salad), and the Kapadokya which is a 500-year-old recipe (marinated chicken, onions, peppers, pomegranate, lemon juice, honey, apricot, almonds, rice, a salad).

Mevan Restaurant & Bar

Next on our list is Mevan – a stunning restaurant with a gorgeous interior, excellent service, and incredible Turkish food. This place has been a favourite of ours for over three years and we visit at least once a month.

We recommend starting off with Filo Pastry (with feta cheese and spinach), the Fresh Calamari (served with sweet chilli sauce), the Chicken Liver (with butter, herbs, and red onion), or the Spicy Beef Sausage.

Then move on to their charcoal-grilled kebabs all of which are served with a salad and rice – the Adana Kofte, Lamb Shish, and Chicken Shish are our favourites. We also really like the Lamb Sarma Beyti (lamb minced meat, flatbread, yoghurt, tomato sauce, butter) and the Mevan Special Chicken (chicken fillet, portobello mushrooms, garlic, pesto, rice).

Bar Azita

Next on our list is a beautiful Mediterranean restaurant that not only offers delicious Turkish food but also an incredible experience. The service is excellent, the interior is stunning and super stylish, and the staff is very friendly. It’s one of our favourite restaurants in Hitchin!

We love everything about their menu. They do not offer main dishes but everything is served like tapas – a small dish. This means that you get to order more things off of the menu and be able to try a lot of things in one sitting. We recommend their Kalamari (deep-fried squid rings), the Greek Salad With Feta (cucumbers, tomato, red onion, olives, feta cheese), the Falafel, the Vine leaves (stuffed with minced beef and rice), and the Potatosalata (potatoes, chives, mayonnaise, olive oil, lemon juice).

They also have a lot of other Mediterranean dishes – mainly Greek and Spanish!

Hitchin best kebab

And last on our list is a takeaway place offering traditional Turkish food. They do not have a dine-in area which is why we recommend you order from them when you are craving delicious Turkish food yet you don’t feel like sitting in a restaurant and would prefer to enjoy the food in the comfort of your own home.

They also offer burgers, wraps, pasta, pizza, and even fried chicken, however, today we will focus on all the Turkish food – all the kebabs!

We highly recommend getting their Special Mix Kebab (which includes lamb doner, lamb shish, kofte shish, chicken shish, grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, 2 pitta pieces of bread, 2 dips, fresh salad, and a sauce). Of course, all of these kebabs can also be ordered separately – they also come with pitta bread, fresh salad, and a sauce.
