If you have small children and/or pets, you probably have to clean urine puddles every now and then. Not an enjoyable task but – oh well – it needs to be done, and fast.
If this is a regular attitude of your pet’s you may want to consult a veterinarian or a professional behaviorist.
When the stain is on clothes:
Rinse in warm water and wash as usual according to the garment label.
When the stain is on your mattress:
To protect the mattresses in your home it’s good to invest in few mattress protectors – they’re generally inexpensive, easy to wash and can protect your mattresses from other things as well, such as blood, mites, breakfast in bed gone wrong, etc.
If you don’t have one of those on your bed when the damage is done, you can try to clean up using a cloth or a sponge, damp with water and washing up liquid solution. Finish with applying some disinfectant. Don’t get the stained area too wet and make sure that the mattress is completely dry before you cover it up.
When the stain is on your carpet or upholstery:
Use a kitchen paper to absorb the urine, then apply shampoo and rinse with cold water with suitable amount of your preferred disinfection product.
If the stain is a result of your male cat spraying, it may happen again on the same spot. To prevent this, use a lemon scented cleaning product.
In every case, always read the manufacturer instructions if there are any, before you do anything. Then proceed with a small test patch. If any doubt, consult a professional cleaner.
