If you’ve stood in the queue at Chadwick’s on a Saturday morning for a bag of black puddings, you already know more about Bury than most job ads will ever tell you. We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner across the borough (Bury town, Whitefield, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington) at £13 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds.

That’s the headline. The rest is the small print and a few honest notes on what the rota actually looks like.

Where the work is

Most of our Bury rounds sit along the Metrolink Yellow Line spine: Bury Interchange at the top, then down through Whitefield and Besses o’ th’ Barn into Prestwich before it crosses the M60. The other half of the rota sits north of town: Tottington, Walmersley, and a steady stream of stone cottages in Ramsbottom a short walk from the East Lancs Railway platform on Bolton Street.

The housing mix you’ll be cleaning is properly varied. Long Victorian terraces around Bury BL9 and the streets behind the market. 1930s semis in Whitefield (M45) and Prestwich (M25). Modern flats near the Rock in Bury centre. Stone cottages in Ramsbottom (BL0). Post-war estates in Radcliffe (M26) and Bury BL8. Different from Manchester city work, where everything’s a high-rise or a converted Victorian.

The pay, simply

£13 an hour. Weekly bank transfer, every Friday. Two-hour minimum visit. Mileage paid above 4 miles between jobs at 30p a mile.

We don’t pay monthly because monthly is annoying when you’ve just started and you’re waiting on a first wage.

Hours and rota

Part-time means part-time. Roughly 16–24 hours a week to start, weekday daytimes, with an option to pick up Saturday mornings if you fancy them. Most clients want the same cleaner each fortnight, so you’ll build a steady round. We’re open to school-hours-only rotas — Whitefield and Prestwich primaries finish at 3.15, and we know.

Getting around

You don’t have to drive. The Bury Metrolink runs a tram every 15 minutes through 2026 (TfGM changed the frequency from 12 to 15 in late March), and the bus links into Radcliffe and Tottington are reasonable. Still, drivers cover more ground and earn more in a day. Ramsbottom and parts of Tottington are awkward without a car. If you do drive, an older car is fine — there’s no Clean Air Zone in Bury borough.

One time-of-week thing: Bury Market opens 9 to 4.30 on Wednesdays and Fridays and 9 to 5 on Saturdays, so traffic around Murray Road and the bus station gets busy on those mornings. We try not to book town-centre jobs for 9.30 starts on a Friday for that reason.

What we want from you

  • You’ve cleaned before, professionally or to a serious standard at home. We’re not training from scratch this time.
  • You turn up. The agency three streets over lost a chunk of bookings last winter to no-shows, and we picked them up.
  • You’ll send a text the night before if a job has to move.
  • Right-to-work paperwork sorted. Bring ID and a recent utility bill.

What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, or a long online form. We’d rather meet.

How to apply

Message the number on this page with your name, the postcode you live in, and one sentence on where you’ve cleaned before. We reply within 48 hours, usually faster. If we want to meet we’ll book you in for a Wednesday or Thursday at our office near Bury town centre — bring ID and that utility bill so we can do right-to-work properly. The whole meeting takes about twenty minutes.

You can read more about our other rounds across Greater Manchester including Manchester city centre and Salford if Bury isn’t quite right.
