If you live anywhere between Bispham promenade and Squires Gate, you already know what the Illuminations season does to a working week. Six lanes of slow traffic from Pleasure Beach to Gynn Square most evenings from early September into early January, and a holiday-let market that doubles up its changeovers on Saturdays through the autumn. We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners in Blackpool at £12 to £14 an hour, paid weekly on Fridays, with regular rounds across FY1, FY2, FY3 and FY4.
That’s the answer. The rest is the small print.
Where the work actually is
FY1 is the central wards: town centre, the streets behind the Promenade, the Tower postcode, and the long band of former boarding-house terraces running back from the seafront. A lot of those Victorian terraces have been split into two or three holiday flats with an owner’s flat on top. FY2 is Bispham and the cliffs end of the seafront, mostly 1930s semis and bungalows on the streets either side of Red Bank Road. FY3 picks up Layton, Marton and Stanley Park ward, more mixed: pre-war semis, post-war council-built terraces, a band of newer estates on the Mythop Road side. FY4 is the southern end, including South Shore, Marton Mere, and the post-war Mereside estate inland from Squires Gate. Mereside dates from 1948 and is still the largest council-built estate in town. Grange Park, also in FY3, is the other big one and has been part of a £20m Blackpool Council rebuild since 2022 with new houses and bungalows going in across two sites.

The Illuminations effect on the rota
Blackpool runs the Illuminations from 4 September 2026 to 4 January 2027, and it changes the shape of every shift on the seafront band. Switch-on weekend is the first Friday in September, the Promenade is essentially closed to through-traffic on the night, and the Tramway runs an extended evening service from Starr Gate up to Fleetwood Ferry through October. The Tramway, by the way, is the country’s last surviving first-generation tramway and the only seaside one still in regular service since 1885, which is a useful pub fact and a genuinely useful fact for a cleaner without a car. From early September the Pleasure Beach holiday-let market swings to Saturday-only changeovers across most of the apartments behind New Bonny Street and on the streets running back from the South Pier, so a Saturday cleaner with a tight three-hour turnaround can pick up two end-of-tenancy slots in a morning. Pleasure Beach itself is open most days from 7 March to 28 November in 2026, and the late-season Friday and Saturday late-night riding nights spill traffic across the south end well past midnight.
Pay, plainly
£12 to £14 an hour. Where you sit on the band depends on three things: the round’s distance from where you live, the property type and size, and whether the booking is a regular fortnightly maintenance clean or a tight-window holiday-let changeover. Maintenance cleans on Bispham semis and the Lytham St Annes edge of FY8 sit at the top of the band because the floor area is bigger and the visit is longer. Town-centre flat cleans inside FY1 sit nearer the lower end because the visits are shorter and you can fit two or three in a morning. Saturday holiday-let changeovers between June and October are paid at the top of the band as a short-window premium.

Getting around without a car
Blackpool has two stations and they don’t connect to each other directly. Blackpool North is the main station on the electrified branch from Preston, with regular Northern and TransPennine services to Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport, Liverpool Lime Street, Preston, York, and a daily Avanti service to London Euston. Blackpool South is the smaller, single-tracked, non-electrified branch on the Colne line, one Northern train an hour, useful only if your round is at the south end. North and South stations are about two miles apart and locals don’t try to interchange between them.
The Tramway is the spine of any car-free round on the seafront. Eleven miles, Starr Gate to Fleetwood Ferry, every ten to fifteen minutes in season. If your round sits within five minutes’ walk of the Promenade you can do almost the whole rota off the tram. Inland rounds in Marton and Mereside need a Blackpool Transport bus from Talbot Road or Market Street; the 7 and 11 cover most of the inland patch, and the 17 runs out to Mereside.
Where the holiday-let work comes from
A meaningful share of our Blackpool bookings come through letting agents and serviced-flat owners. Kenricks Commercial Estate Agents handle a long book of holiday flats across FY1 and FY4, including the Woodfield Road and Palatine Road clusters of former boarding-houses converted to self-contained units. KAYS Commercial, trading on the Fylde coast since 1948, also list a steady run of guesthouses and holiday-flat blocks across the central wards. Those changeover jobs are tight-window: usually a single morning between guests, often on a Saturday, sometimes a same-day turnaround when a check-out runs late. If you can do Saturday mornings between June and the end of the Illuminations, say so when you apply.
Who we’d like to hear from
- ✓You’ve cleaned before, paid or seriously domestic. We are not training from scratch this round.
- ✓You text back. If a job needs to move, a message the night before is fine. A no-show on a Saturday changeover is the one thing we do not absorb.
- ✓Right-to-work paperwork on day one. Photo ID and a recent utility bill, no exceptions.
- ✓Honest about what you can lift and what you can’t. Some of the FY1 boarding-house conversions are top-floor walk-ups with no lift.
What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
