The first thing to know about cleaning in Chester is that the city sits inside a nearly two-mile loop of Roman walls, and the postcode boundaries radiate out from that loop in a way that genuinely changes how a round day works. We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Chester at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly on Fridays, with regular rounds across CH1, CH2, CH3 and CH4.
That sentence answers the obvious question. The rest is the small print and a few honest notes on what the work is actually like in this city.
The four postcodes, plainly
CH1 is the city centre inside the walls and the band running west and north toward Blacon, Saughall, Mollington and Sealand. CH2 is the patch we get the most enquiries from: Hoole, Newton, Upton, Mickle Trafford and Elton sit here, and Hoole in particular is a tight grid of streets just east of the railway station, full of converted Edwardian and Victorian terraces. CH3 is where the rounds get longer, because it stretches a long way east and south, taking in Boughton, Vicars Cross, Waverton, Tarvin, Christleton and out to Tattenhall. CH4 is the south side of the river: Handbridge straight across the Old Dee Bridge, Lache to the south-west, Curzon Park along the river cliff, then Saltney and out toward Broughton on the Welsh side. The CH4 / Wales boundary at Saltney runs along the middle of a residential street, which is a quirk worth knowing if you ever need to ring 999 from a job there.
What the housing actually looks like
The housing tells you most of what you need to know about the rota. Hoole has the converted period stock: tall ceilings, picture rails, original tile in the hallway, often three storeys with a basement kitchen. Curzon Park, on the river cliff in CH4, is large detached Victorian and early-Edwardian villas in the conservation area, generally the longer four-hour visits with bigger floor areas and a fair bit of carpet. Boughton and the streets toward the canal have rows of compact Victorian terraces. Upton and Mickle Trafford in CH2 lean toward larger detached and 1970s-1980s estates, with bigger plots and longer driveways. Around the city centre and by the racecourse you get modern flats, often in conversions of older buildings inside the walls, where parking is the main headache and the visits are usually shorter. Riverside houses along the Dee, both on Boughton and on the Handbridge side, are their own small category and they tend to get more end-of-tenancy work in summer.
We try to keep each cleaner inside one or two of those housing types so you’re not bouncing between a Curzon Park villa and a Hoole terrace in the same morning.
Pay, plainly
£13 to £15 an hour. Where you sit on the band depends on three things: how far the round is from where you live, the property size, and whether the client is a regular fortnightly visit or a one-off end-of-tenancy. CH1 city-centre flats and the Hoole terraces tend to sit at the lower end of the band because the visits are short and you can fit two or three in a morning. The Curzon Park detacheds, the larger Upton properties, and the riverside houses on the Dee sit at the top of the band because the floor area is genuinely bigger and the visit is longer.

For comparison, Maid2Clean Chester start at £18 an hour for the customer with a £40 agency fee on top, and Bark.com listings for Chester cleaners cluster between £25 and £35 an hour. Those are the rates a household pays an agency or marketplace before any cut. Our £13 to £15 is the cleaner’s actual hourly figure, paid into your bank, no hidden deductions.
Getting around the city without losing an hour to traffic
Chester has one mainline station, on Hoole Road in CH2, served by Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales, with direct trains to London Euston, Crewe, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Wrexham and along the North Wales coast to Holyhead. If you live anywhere along the TfW line you can almost certainly reach a Chester round in under an hour. The buses out of the Bus Interchange off Gorse Stacks cover the rest. The 3 and the 50 cover Hoole, the 1 runs to Lache, and the 4 and 16 head south to Handbridge and Saltney. If you do drive, two practical things to know. First, parking inside the walls is fierce: city-centre permits are tightly controlled and the 30-minute on-street limits across CH1 mean we will never book you a job that depends on parking on Watergate Street at half-eight. Second, on Chester FC home matchdays at the Deva Stadium on Bumpers Lane (technically just over the Welsh border in CH4 / CH5) the Sealand Road approach grinds for about an hour either side of kick-off, and on Chester Races meeting days at the Roodee, traffic round the New Crane Street roundabout slows everything south and west of the centre. We plan rounds around both.
Where the end-of-tenancy work comes from
A meaningful share of our Chester bookings come through letting agents. Dwell Estate Agents on Hoole Road in CH2 run a busy lettings book across CH1 and CH2 and a lot of the central student-adjacent stock. Address Estate Agents, also on Faulkner Street in Hoole, have been growing fast since they opened the Hoole office and put a steady stream of CH2 end-of-tenancies through us. Swetenhams cover the Handbridge and Curzon Park side. Reeds Rains pick up a fair bit of CH3 and the eastern villages. Those are tight-window jobs, usually a single day between tenants, sometimes a same-day turnaround when a check-out runs late. If you can do those days at short notice, say so when you apply.
A few Chester-specific things you’ll get used to
The Eastgate Clock above Eastgate Street is, after Big Ben, said to be the most photographed clock in England, which means you’ll often be picking your way past tourists with cameras between Bridge Street and Eastgate Street if a client lives in the Rows above the shops. The Rows themselves, those covered first-floor walkways with shops on two levels, run along Watergate, Northgate, Eastgate and upper Bridge, and a small number of our clients live in flats above them. Chester Cathedral on St Werburgh Street holds Choral Evensong at 4:15pm most weekday evenings during term, which is worth knowing if you have a late afternoon job near Abbey Square because the bells and the post-service traffic kick off around the same time. And Chester Zoo, the largest zoo in the UK with over 27,000 animals, is open from 10am daily and pulls heavy traffic up Liverpool Road through CH2 on summer weekends, particularly during the Afterglow late-opening evenings between 31 July and 16 August.

What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
