Six trains an hour stop at Huyton station in each direction, which is why most of our Knowsley rota sits inside a half-mile walk of it.
We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Knowsley at £13.25 an hour, paid weekly, on fortnightly rounds across Huyton, Prescot, Whiston and Kirkby.
That’s the answer to the obvious question. The rest is the small print.
Where the rounds are
Most of the work clusters around three spots. First, the long Victorian terraces and Edwardian semis on the Eccleston Street side of Prescot, a five-minute walk from the Shakespeare North Playhouse, which opened in 2022 and now pulls evening footfall through Prescot town centre most nights of the week. Second, the post-war ex-council semis around Huyton village and the streets behind Stadt Moers Park, the 220-acre country park between Huyton and Whiston that’s the local dog-walking spine. Third, the modern estates on the Halewood side, where a lot of clients work shifts at the JLR plant.
Plus a handful of regulars in Stockbridge Village and the Tower Hill end of Kirkby.
What we pay
£13.25 an hour. Bank transfer every Friday. We pay weekly because monthly is rough when you’re new and waiting on a first wage to land.
That sits comfortably above the National Living Wage of £11.44, and roughly in line with what Diamond Home Support’s Knowsley office currently quotes its cleaners. We’re not the highest-paying agency in the borough. We’re not the lowest. We aim for steady fortnightly hours with the same households so the rota stays predictable.
Shift timing and the JLR thing
The Halewood plant moved from a two-shift to a single-shift operation in early 2025, which has changed how a chunk of our Halewood and Whiston clients book. Roughly half of them are now home in the afternoons rather than the evenings, so the 1pm to 4pm slot has become our busiest window. If you can do school-hours work or you’re free in the early afternoon, that’s when most of the new clients want us.
Mornings still work for the Prescot and Huyton retired clients. Evenings are quieter than they used to be.
Transport
If you don’t drive, Huyton station is the practical hub. Northern runs trains from Lime Street through Huyton and Roby to Manchester Victoria via the original Stephenson line, plus the Wigan branch. Eight calls an hour at Huyton on a weekday, including TransPennine services that don’t stop. From Huyton we can route most rounds inside a 20-minute walk.
If you do drive, Knowsley is easier than central Liverpool by a country mile. The M57 cuts through the borough, on-street parking is mostly free outside Prescot town centre, and there’s no Clean Air Zone or ULEZ to worry about.
The housing mix, briefly
Worth knowing because the work is different in each. Prescot has Victorian terraces with original tile floors and tight kitchens. Whiston is mostly 1930s semis with bigger gardens. Kirkby is post-war overspill, a lot of three-bed semis on the Northwood and Tower Hill estates, with the new energy-efficient builds going up south of Cherryfield Drive as part of the council’s regeneration plan. Halewood mixes ex-coal-mine ground with the modern estates near JLR.
