Most of our Macclesfield rota sits on the eastern edge of the town, between the railway station and the Peak District boundary at Tegg’s Nose, with a smaller cluster of premium rounds out at Prestbury and Bollington. We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Macclesfield at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly on Fridays, with regular fortnightly rounds across SK10 and SK11.
That’s the headline. The rest of this ad is the small print and the honest bits.
The patch, in one paragraph
SK10 covers most of the town north of the river plus Prestbury, Bollington and Rainow on the eastern slope. SK11 picks up everything south and east, including Sutton, Langley, Gawsworth and the villages out toward Bosley. The bulk of our work sits in the SK10 1, SK10 2 and SK11 6 sectors. We dip occasionally into SK10 4 for Prestbury jobs and SK10 5 for Bollington, but those are longer drives and we only book them when a regular client lives there.
The houses you’ll be cleaning
Macclesfield housing tracks the silk-trade history fairly cleanly. The Victorian terraces around Sunderland Street, Hibel Road and the cobbled streets running down toward the Bollin were silk-worker homes; small footprints, two-up-two-down, original stone steps still in plenty of them. Hurdsfield east of the centre is mostly 1930s semis on Hurdsfield Road and the streets behind it, bigger floor area and more carpet. Prestbury, two miles north, is footballer territory, large detacheds on Macclesfield Road and the lanes off it, and Withinlee Road in particular has a reputation as one of the most expensive streets in northern England. Bollington’s mix is older mill cottages along Palmerston Street with newer detacheds on the slopes above. The estates on the eastern fringe heading toward Tytherington are 1990s and 2000s modern, predictable layouts, lots of magnolia.
We try to keep each cleaner on one or two of those bands so a single morning isn’t a Hurdsfield semi then a Prestbury six-bed.
What you’ll get paid
£13 to £15 an hour. Where you sit on the band depends on three things: the property size, the postcode, and whether the job is a regular fortnightly visit or a one-off end-of-tenancy. The Prestbury and Bollington detacheds and the larger Hurdsfield semis tend to sit at the £15 end because the floor area is bigger and the visit runs longer. SK11 6 town-centre flats and the Sunderland Street terraces sit nearer £13 because the visits are shorter and you can fit two in a morning.
Bank transfer every Friday. We pay weekly because monthly is awful when you’re new and waiting on a first wage.
For comparison: Maid2Clean Macclesfield charges its customers from around £16 an hour as a starting agency rate, and Diamond Home Support runs Macclesfield rounds at the higher end of the local cleaner market. Our £13 to £15 is the cleaner’s actual hourly figure paid into your bank, no agency cut, no hidden deductions.
Getting around the town
If you don’t drive, the railway station is the spine. Macclesfield sits on the West Coast Main Line, with services to Manchester Piccadilly in about 25 minutes and London Euston in around an hour and a half, and that station footfall keeps the town centre busy from early morning. Most SK11 6 rounds are reachable on foot or with one bus from the Sunderland Street terminus. SK10 5 Bollington and SK10 4 Prestbury are harder without a car, so we’ll be straight with you about which jobs work for which travel setup.
If you do drive, two things to know. The Cheshire East resident parking permit scheme covers parts of the town centre, with first permits at £90 a year and second at £110, so for jobs where the client pays we sort the visitor permit code in advance. Tegg’s Nose Country Park’s car park is pay and display between 10am and 10pm with no overnight parking, which matters for the handful of Langley and Sutton clients on Buxton Old Road, and we plan around that for any early visits up that side.
End-of-tenancy work and the letting agents
A decent share of the work comes through letting agents on Mill Street and Church Street. Bridgfords sit at 38 to 40 Mill Street and run a busy lettings book across SK10 and SK11. Reeds Rains are on Church Street, the cobbled hill running up from the station, and Northwood are at the bottom of Church Street near the train station and public car park. Those jobs are tight-window: usually a single day between tenants, sometimes a same-day turnaround when a check-out runs late. If you can do those days at short notice, say so when you apply.
Local notes that affect the working day
The Silk Museum and Paradise Mill on Park Lane and Roe Street still draw a steady stream of visitors during opening hours, and the Ian Curtis mural on Mill Street pulls a quiet trickle of music tourists past the centre most weekends. Neither is your problem as a cleaner, but parking around the town centre on Saturdays gets tight. Park football at Moss Rose and rugby crowds in the season can clog Park Lane in the late afternoon, so we don’t book town-centre jobs that finish at five on a match day.
It’s a market town pace. Slower than Manchester, busier than the Peak villages just over the hill.
