If you’ve watched the tide come in over the iron men on Crosby Beach, you already know the borough we work. We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners across Sefton at £13.50 an hour, paid weekly, on fortnightly rounds from Bootle up to Southport.
That’s the answer to the obvious question.
The rest is the small print and a straight note about what cleaning round here actually looks like.
Where the rounds are
Sefton is long. North to south it runs the better part of twenty-two miles of coast, from Bootle and the L20 docks line, up through Crosby and Waterloo (L22, L23), Hightown and Formby (L37, L38), into Southport (PR8, PR9). Inland we cover Maghull and Aintree Village (L31), Litherland (L21), and the L29/L30 cluster around Netherton. Most of our work is maintenance cleans in private homes. The housing varies by stop on the Northern Line: Victorian terraces in Bootle and Waterloo, Edwardian villas in Crosby, the bigger detached stock around Formby and Hightown, 1930s semis up in Maghull, and proper period houses in Birkdale and the streets off Lord Street in Southport.
End-of-tenancy work comes in steady batches through letting agents along the coast — Hornby Lettings, who manage rentals across the full Formby-to-Southport stretch, and Stephanie MacNab in Formby village. Those are the names you’ll see most on our key board.
What we pay
£13.50 an hour. Bank transfer, every Friday.
That sits above the National Living Wage of £11.44 for over-21s, and a touch above what a couple of the local franchise operations are quoting their cleaners. Diamond Home Support’s Crosby and Formby pages are advertising £12 to £14.50 an hour right now, Poppies cover Crosby, Maghull, Aintree and Southport at similar rates, and Spot On run Southport, Formby and Crosby. We’re not the highest-paying outfit on the patch. We’re not the lowest. The trade-off is steady weekly hours with the same households so you build a rota you actually want to keep.
We pay weekly because waiting a month for the first wage is rough.
The tide and the Grand National week
Two local quirks worth knowing before you sign on.
First, the coast. A chunk of the Crosby and Hightown rota is on the seaward side of the railway, and on a high spring tide the access road past the Coastguard station can be closed for an hour either side. We build the rota around tide times rather than fight them — if a client’s at the wrong end of the beach on a 9.6m tide, we shift them to the afternoon. Nothing dramatic, just planning.
Second, Aintree. The borough borders the racecourse and the Grand National Festival ran 9 to 11 April this year, with the main race on the Saturday at 4pm. The Maghull and Aintree Village rounds get noisy that week, the buses fill up, and the Sefton Council parking restrictions tighten around the course. We block the Friday afternoon and the Saturday on those rounds and pick them back up the following week. The Southport Flower Show in late August (this year it’s 20 to 23 August at Victoria Park, PR8 1RX) does a similar thing to PR8 traffic — we plan around it.
Parking and getting there
Sefton has a smaller permit footprint than Liverpool. The main resident-permit zones the council still runs are Zones 100 and 104 in Southport town centre, around the pay-and-display streets behind Lord Street. If a job is inside one of those zones we sort the visitor permit through the client. Otherwise it’s mostly free street parking, which is a relief after working in town.
If you don’t drive, the Northern Line from Hunts Cross through Liverpool Central up to Southport is the spine of the rota. Almost every round we book is walkable from a Merseyrail stop on that line — Bootle Oriel Road, Waterloo, Blundellsands, Formby, Birkdale, Southport. The Formby red squirrel pinewoods and the Antony Gormley sculptures are useful landmarks for clients giving you directions: half our Crosby clients say “three streets back from the iron men” instead of using a postcode.
What we want from you
- ✓You’ve cleaned before, professionally or properly domestically. We’re not training from zero on this round.
- ✓You’ll text the night before if a job has to move. Same the other way from us.
- ✓You’ll bring a right-to-work document and a recent utility bill to the meeting.
- ✓You live in or near the rota. Bootle and Liverpool 22 cleaners get Crosby/Bootle work; Formby cleaners get Formby/Hightown; Southport-based cleaners get Birkdale and PR8/PR9. Travel time isn’t paid, so we don’t ask anyone to cross the borough.

How to apply
Message the number on this page with your name, your home postcode, and one sentence on where you’ve cleaned before. We reply inside 48 hours. If we want to meet, we meet on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning at a cafe on South Road in Waterloo, near the Crosby end of the Northern Line. Bring ID. The whole process takes about a week if everything lines up.
