If you’ve ever waited for a bus on Corporation Street while a Saints crowd spills out of the BrewDog Stadium (the ground was still called Totally Wicked until October 2025), you already know how a St Helens working day feels. We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner for the borough at £13 per hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds across WA9, WA10, WA11 and WA12.

Where the work actually is
Most of our St Helens rota sits in the WA postcodes plus the L34 and L35 fringe. Central WA10 is mainly the long Victorian terraces around Boundary Road and the streets behind the World of Glass on Chalon Way East. Sutton Manor and Eccleston run more to 1930s semis with bay windows and side passages. Parr is post-war estates, mostly two-up-two-down. Rainford and Eccleston Park lean modern, with the new Edgefold and Bellway estates off the A570. The cottages on the Billinge and Haydock edges are smaller, often ex-mining stock with awkward stair geometry.
The pay, plainly
£13 per hour. Weekly bank transfer, every Friday. We hold the £12 floor for the first month while you settle, then move to £13 once we’ve both decided the round suits. Drivers picking up two-clean days across Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown can move to £14 once we trust them with the keys. Mileage is paid between jobs at the HMRC approved rate, not at-cost.
What you’ll be doing
- ✓Regular two and three-hour maintenance cleans in private homes.
- ✓The odd end-of-tenancy slot booked through letting agents we work with: Stapleton Derby in the town centre, Cosey Rentals out towards Rainford, and occasionally Think Estate Agents on the Newton-le-Willows side.
- ✓Bring your own kit if you have a preferred set. We supply the rest. We do not use bleach in tiled bathrooms unless the client specifically asks.
Match days and race days
Two things will affect your week. Saints home games at the BrewDog Stadium normally kick off Friday evenings (the 2026 home opener was Leigh on Friday 20 February at 8pm), and on those nights the A570 around Knowsley Road grinds. Haydock Park has roughly 32 race days a year. The May Bank Holiday meetings (9th, 17th, 21st through 23rd, 29th and 30th in 2026) and the Betfair Chase weekend in late November are the heaviest. We rota around them rather than fight the traffic. If you’ve got a stop near Haydock on a race day we move it to the morning.
Race-day Tuesdays at Haydock are a write-off.
What we want from you
You’ll have cleaned before, properly. You’ll be reliable on the day, with a text the night before if a job needs to slide. You’ll be fine working alone in client homes. You’ll have a Right-to-Work document we can copy. You don’t need a CV. You don’t need a covering letter.
If you drive, that doubles your patch. The 32 and 32A buses are useful for the Clinkham Wood to Clock Face spine, and Newton-le-Willows station gets you to Earlestown and Haydock without a car, but rounds out towards Rainford and Billinge are a pain on public transport.
Why this is a real job and not an agency listing
Some bigger names in the borough (Time For You, Well Polished, Maid2Clean) run a different model where the cleaner is self-employed and finds their own pay rate. We pay you. There is one phone number. The owner answers it. If a client cancels at short notice we still pay you for the slot, which is the bit nobody ever puts on the website.
