Ask a Wigan cleaner where the work actually is and they’ll point at three patches: the Victorian terraces around Wigan town centre and Leigh, the 1930s semis up in Standish and Orrell, and the post-war estates out at Marsh Green where the streets are all named after British aircraft. We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners across the Wigan borough at £13.50 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds. That sentence is the answer to the obvious question. Everything below is the small print.
Our patch sits inside the WN1 to WN8 postcodes, plus M29 around Tyldesley and Astley and M46 over in Atherton. The bulk of the bookings come from private flats and family homes. A handful are end-of-tenancy slots through letting agents, mainly Borron Shaw, who reckon they’re the biggest letting agency in the borough and are honest about the volume that involves, and Belvoir on King Street, who cover Standish, Aspull, Hindley and Leigh out of the same office.
Pay is £13.50 an hour. Weekly.
Bank transfer every Friday. That’s well above the National Living Wage, which sits at £12.21 an hour for over-21s in 2025 and rises to £12.71 from 1 April 2026. The borough, honestly
- ✓Central Wigan rounds run between Standishgate, Mesnes Park and the canalside down at Wigan Pier on the Leeds and Liverpool. The old Galleries Shopping Centre on Standishgate has been knocked down for redevelopment, so the town centre traffic pattern is messier than it was a year ago and the bus station re-routings catch people out. Allow ten extra minutes.
- ✓Match days at the Brick Community Stadium are the one diary item you have to plan around. Wigan Athletic and the Wigan Warriors share the ground, so a heavy weekend can mean an EFL kick-off on the Saturday and a Super League fixture the day after. We avoid Robin Park Road jobs in the two-hour window either side of kick-off; The Storage Works overflow car park fills first and the back streets fill straight after.
- ✓Standish work mostly sits on Almond Brook Road and Chorley Road, the 1930s semis. Easy parking, decent driveways, mostly older clients on long weekly cleans. The Stagecoach 362 covers the patch if you don’t drive.
- ✓Leigh and Atherton (WN7 and M46) are the long-shift end. End-of-tenancy work in Victorian terraces converted to flats, plus family cleans on the newer estates near the M6 junction at Standish.
What we ask for
- ◆You’ve cleaned before. Domestic, hotel, contract, end-of-tenancy. Any of those is fine. We don’t train from zero on this round of hires.
- ◆You text the night before if a job needs to move. Not the morning of.
- ◆You take pride in turning up. Well Polished and We Clean Homes are the two named competitors we run into most around the borough; both are decent operations. The honest difference with us is the weekly bank transfer and the fact we don’t take a cut twice on the same booking.
What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, or any of that. We’ll see your right-to-work paperwork at the meeting.
How to apply
Message the number on the page with your name, the postcode you live in, and one line on where you’ve cleaned before. We reply inside forty-eight hours, often the same day. If we want to meet, the meeting is usually a Wednesday morning at the Haigh Kitchen Courtyard cafe up at Haigh Hall, because parking is free and the cafe is quiet before eleven; bring some ID and a recent utility bill.
