Suction is 8,000Pa, well short of the flagships, but on hard floors and everyday low-pile carpet it cleans cleanly, and the AI.See camera dodges cables and toys reliably. The clever bit is the edges. A MopExtend arm and an extendable side brush push out to reach into corners and along skirting, where most robots leave a margin. What about an iRobot Roomba?
The Roomba used to be the default, and the original version of this guide led with one. In 2026 the picture has changed. iRobot’s current flagship, the Roomba Combo 10 Max with the AutoWash dock, does vacuum, mop, self-empty and wash its pad, and it is sold in the UK through iRobot and the usual retailers. PrecisionVision navigation is good at dodging cables and pet mess.
The catch is value. Reviewers including TechRadar and T3 found it capable but not as powerful as the Chinese flagships, and its £1,499 list price is steep, though it has been discounted to around £679 to £749. How to choose a robot vacuum
Six things decide whether a robot suits your home. Run through them before you spend.
Suction and carpet
If you have hard floors and the odd rug, almost any modern robot copes. Deep or high-pile carpet is the test. The flagships quote 20,000Pa to 25,000Pa and add a chassis or mop lift that helps them grip pile, while budget models sit lower. Suction figures are not directly comparable between brands, so read a carpet test rather than trusting the number alone.
Self-empty dock
This is the feature that changes daily life. A dock that empties the robot’s bin into a bag means you deal with the dust once a month or two, not every day. Every robot here has one. They are bulky, so make sure you have a spot for the dock near a socket before you buy.
Mopping
If your home is mostly hard floors, a hybrid that vacuums and mops earns its keep. Look for pads that lift on carpet so they do not wet your rugs, and a dock that washes the pads in hot water, because a dirty pad just smears. Robot mopping handles fresh spills and light grime, not dried-on stains.
Navigation and obstacles
