The 6am-to-10pm Dart Charge window is the single fact that shapes our Dartford rota. If a job sits the wrong side of the QE2 Bridge or the Dartford Tunnel and a cleaner is going home before 10pm, that’s an extra £3.50 a crossing on top of fuel, so we route round it. Most cleaners who work for us in Dartford never cross the river on a shift. The rounds are built that way on purpose.
We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Dartford at £12–£14 per hour, paid weekly by bank transfer, on regular fortnightly rounds across DA1, DA2, DA3 and DA4.

The four postcodes, briefly
DA1 is the Dartford town centre core plus Crayford and Barnes Cray on the western fringe. Most of our DA1 work is in the Victorian terraces north of the Priory Centre and the post-war Temple Hill estate east of the railway line. DA2 covers Stone, Wilmington, Joydens Wood and Bean, and that’s where the modern estates around Crossways Boulevard and the Bellway sites near Stone Crossing station sit. DA3 is Longfield and Hartley, more village-y, longer drives between jobs. DA4 is Eynsford and South Darenth, which we cover lightly because the rounds spread out fast.
Most of the regular fortnightly work is in DA1 and DA2. If you live near the centre or off East Hill, you’ll be busy.
Pay, plain
£12 to £14 an hour. Maintenance cleans for regular clients sit at the lower end of that. End-of-tenancy work on a flat or a small terrace runs nearer the top. Bank transfer every Friday for the previous Sunday-to-Saturday week. We pay weekly because waiting a month for a first wage is awful when you’ve just started.
Mileage is 45p a mile between jobs that aren’t walking distance from each other. We don’t ask you to bring your own vacuum or buy supplies.
Housing stock you’ll actually clean
It’s a wide mix. The terraces north of the High Street and round Spital Street are Victorian, often two-up-two-down with extensions on the back. West Hill and East Hill have a band of 1930s semis and Edwardian villas, and those are usually three-bed family homes. Temple Hill is post-war estate housing from the late 1940s and early 1950s, which Dartford was famously the first to build at scale. Stone and Greenhithe are mostly modern: Crossways Quarter, the Bellway development at Stone Crossing, the Taylor Wimpey blocks round Swanscombe. There are riverside flats off the Thames at Greenhithe and Ingress Park. The work mix follows the housing: smaller terraced cleans take 90 minutes; the modern flats two hours; the bigger semis up West Hill three.
Who we want
You’ll have cleaned before, properly. Either through an agency or a serious domestic run. Not training from zero this round.
- ✓You drive, or you live close enough to Dartford station and the high street that the DA1 rounds are reachable on foot or by bus. Stone, Greenhithe and Longfield are awkward without a car, especially after the early-evening bus thins out.
- ✓You’re free at least three weekday mornings. The 09:30-to-14:30 window is the busy one because clients want the house clean and quiet again before the school pickup.
- ✓You text the night before if a job needs to move. We send the rota by Sunday evening for the week ahead.
What we don’t want: a CV, a covering letter, references printed on headed paper.
The Crossing, and other awkward bits of the working day
Northbound traffic on the QE2 Bridge gets bad from about 4pm and stays bad till 7pm on weekdays, and Friday afternoons are worse. Southbound through the Dartford Tunnel is heavy from 7am till about 9:30am. We avoid scheduling jobs that need a cross-river drive in those windows, but if you’re driving down from Essex on a morning shift you should plan around it. The Crossing is free to use between 10pm and 6am, but the Dart Charge runs every other hour of every day including bank holidays. Cars are £3.50 a trip from September 2025 onwards, £2.80 with a pre-pay account.
Dartford station has 141 trains a day to London Charing Cross with a 39-minute fastest run, and the Cannon Street loop service round Sidcup and Bexleyheath is useful if you’re stitching a Dartford morning to a London afternoon. The town centre is walkable from the station; Temple Hill is a 12-minute walk or the 423 bus.
Dartford Borough Council runs a small permit-parking scheme around Station Road and Eagles Road for commuter spaces, and the council is consulting on wider CPZs near the centre. For most jobs, parking is free on residential streets. Where it isn’t, the client pays.
The competition
Homeclean charge their Dartford clients about £13.19 an hour for a regular two-hour weekly slot. Maid2Clean charge a £40 setup fee plus £14.25 an hour. Fantastic Services start at £18 an hour but a chunk of that goes back to the platform. We pay our cleaners between those numbers without the platform fee skimming, and we keep the same cleaner on the same job. Our turnover is low for a reason.
Two letting agents we work with are Robinson Jackson at 22 Market Street and Wards at 7 Market Street, both town-centre. End-of-tenancy slots through them lift in late summer and again in early spring.
Things to know about the patch
The Mick Jagger Centre at Dartford Grammar on Shepherds Lane is a useful navigation landmark for jobs round West Hill, in case the postcode app sends you the wrong way. Bluewater is a 10-minute drive from the centre and opens 10am to 9pm Monday to Friday, which matters if a client wants you to time a clean around the school run plus a quick shop. We have a couple of jobs round Greenhithe where the client commutes in to Bluewater for a 9am retail shift.
