If you’ve driven the Plough Roundabout (the Magic Roundabout, six mini-roundabouts in a ring) at half-eight in the morning, you already know the rhythm of cleaning Hemel: get the school run out of the way, then start the round.
We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners in Hemel Hempstead at £12 to £14 an hour, paid weekly by bank transfer, on regular fortnightly rounds across HP1, HP2 and HP3. That’s the headline. Below is the small print and a few honest notes about what the work is actually like in this town.
Most of our Hemel rota sits in three loose patches. The first is the Old Town and Gadebridge end of HP1, which means the Georgian terraces along the High Street, the lanes that lead down to St Mary’s Church, and the 1960s semis that spread out behind Rossgate parade. The second patch covers the post-war estate housing that the new town was built around in the 1950s: Adeyfield brick semis south of Adeyfield Road, the Bennetts End terraces around Bennetts Gate, and Highfield. The third is the modern stock at Apsley Lock by the Grand Union Canal and Spencer’s Park up by the HP2 fringe, mostly small flats and three-bed houses on the new-build estates.
Pay is between £12 and £14 an hour, depending on whether you’re new to the work or you’ve cleaned professionally before. New starters land at £12 with a review at month three; cleaners with proven domestic or end-of-tenancy experience start at £13 and we top out at £14. Weekly. Friday by bank transfer. We don’t do monthly because monthly is a nightmare when you’re new and waiting on a first wage.
Hours are part-time and built around the school day. Most clients want us between 09:30 and 14:30, which fits well if you’re picking up from the primaries around Adeyfield or Boxmoor. If you want a longer day we can stack a Marlowes office clean on the end (we do a couple of small offices around the Marlowes shopping area, late afternoons).
Travel is the thing to think about. The Plough Roundabout looks chaotic on first sight but it works fine once you’ve done it twice. Hemel station is on the Euston line and the first weekday train down is the 05:04, which only matters if you’re commuting into ours from outside (we’d rather you live in Hemel or one of the villages). For driving cleaners, the council parking on the Old Town High Street is timed; we’ll tell you straight which clients have a driveway and which don’t.
It’s part-time, not full.
What we want from you is fairly plain. You’ll have cleaned before, professionally or seriously domestically, because we’re not training from zero on this round. You’ll send a text the night before if a job needs to move. You’ll turn up. Maid of Herts and Boxmoor Cleaning Services are both decent local outfits and we don’t try to undercut them on rate; what we offer that they don’t is regular weekly pay and a fixed round, so you know who you’re cleaning for from one fortnight to the next.
What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, or a long application form. Reading three pages of someone’s career history doesn’t tell us whether they can clean a kitchen.

If we want to meet, we’ll meet on a weekday morning, usually at the client’s first house on your trial round so you can see what the work looks like before you commit.
