The oven is the line every check-out clerk opens first, and in Hemel Hempstead it is usually the worst job in the kitchen. We sort it in a morning. Oven cleaning in Hemel Hempstead starts from £77 for a single oven, cleaned by hand and dip-tank, and ready to cook on the same day. The racks, trays and door glass come out into a heated non-caustic dip-tank in the van while the cavity is scrubbed by hand. No fumes, no caustic reek, and the oven is yours the moment we pull away. Ring 0333 555 2076 for a firm price in about ninety seconds.

Last updated April 2026. Covering Hemel Hempstead and the wider Dacorum area, from the Old Town and Boxmoor through Adeyfield, Bennetts End and Leverstock Green up to Grovehill and Gadebridge, and out to Berkhamsted and Tring.

What an oven clean costs in Hemel Hempstead

Prices first. It is what everyone asks on the phone, so here they are with no hedging. A single oven is from £77. A double, the stacked built-in kind, is from £110. A 90cm range cooker is from £114, and a two-oven AGA from £143. Tell us the type and roughly how bad it has got, and you get a firm figure on the spot.

The kit travels in the van, so anything sitting around the oven is cheaper added to the same visit than booked on its own. A hob runs £23 to £28, depending on whether it is gas, ceramic or induction. An extractor hood with its filter is £28. A microwave is £22. Plenty of Hemel households tack on the hob and the extractor once they think about it, because the second the oven gleams the grease on everything beside it leaps out at you.

There is no call-out fee. The price covers the products, the kit and the driving, and you settle up on completion by card or bank transfer. You also get a receipt on company-headed paper, which counts for more than people expect at a move-out, when a Hertfordshire letting agent often wants proof the oven was done properly before the deposit goes back. A line scrawled on a notepad will not cut it.

No fumes, no caustic reek, and the oven is yours the moment we pull away.

How the clean actually goes

Most of the trade runs a dip-tank of some sort. What sorts a good clean from a lazy one is the chemistry, the bits people skip, and whether the technician has done this a handful of times or a few thousand. Ours have. This is the order it happens in.

  1. Floor covered, the worktops either side protected, the oven off at the wall and fully cool if it has been on that day.
  2. Everything that comes out, comes out. Racks, trays, runners, the fan cover, the inner door glass. Modern doors hide a removable inner pane, and the baked film trapped between the layers is the real reason an oven still looks filthy after a so-called clean. We pull that pane. Most people had no idea it unclips.
  3. The removable parts go into the heated tank in the van, a water-based non-caustic degreaser at around 60C. Twenty to forty minutes shifts the lot: carbon, baked-on grease, the toffee glaze off a roasting tray, and the chalk scale that bonds to trays in this town.
  4. While they soak, the cavity gets worked by hand. Enzyme degreaser over the walls, roof, floor and back panel, left to dwell so the chemistry does the graft rather than your arm. Then non-abrasive pads, fine brushes round the seal channel and the element, and a microfibre finish. The fan blade gets extra minutes, because that is where carbon does the lasting damage.
  5. Parts out, rinsed, dried and refitted. Door glass cleaned on both faces, the gasket wiped, runners slotted back. Exactly as we found it.
  6. A quick function test. Oven on, fan turning, handed back ready to cook.

It is not glamorous work and I will not pretend it is. But it is the gap between an oven that looks a shade better and one that is clean right down to the element, where it actually matters for how long the thing keeps going, because carbon caked onto the fan and the element is the commonest reason the rental ovens we meet at a check-out have packed up early, and a clean twice a year costs a fraction of a new oven fitted.

We have seen far worse. Truly.

Chalk water, the new town and the ovens here

Hemel Hempstead is hard-water country, and that shapes the job. The town is supplied by Affinity Water, which draws from the chalk aquifer under the Chilterns, and chalk means hardness, measured around 283 to 333 parts per million in town. You meet it in every kitchen: scale furring the kettle, scale hazing the oven door glass, scale welded into a greasy crust on the trays. A quick wipe just smears it about. The heated tank lifts the grease and the scale in one go, which is the whole reason the method earns its keep round here.

What is behind the oven door changes a lot depending where in the town you are. Hemel was made a New Town in 1947, and it was built out neighbourhood by neighbourhood, each with its own little parade of shops. Adeyfield went up first from 1948, Grovehill was the last of the planned neighbourhoods from 1967, and the housing in each came with the integrated single ovens of its decade, sleek-looking and a pain to keep clear because the glass clouds quickly and the racks sit hard against the back wall. We clean a lot of those.

Roast dinner coming out of a sparkling clean oven
A clean oven cooks cleaner: no smoke, no old-grease smell, just dinner.

The Old Town up the hill is a different story. Period cottages and Victorian terraces along the High Street, Boxmoor down by the river, and Leverstock Green out east tend to hide a proper built-in double or a big family range that has fed a household for a decade. Those are the £110 and £114 jobs, and they earn their time. A fair few of those kitchens run an AGA, which is a different morning again.

Commuting drives a slice of the work too. Hemel Hempstead station sits over in Boxmoor on the West Coast Main Line, about twenty-five miles from London Euston, so a good number of our jobs are rented flats and houses being turned round between tenants who work in town. Landlords sorting those between lets book the oven and little else, because it is the item the inventory always picks on. If you are driving to us, fair warning: the Plough roundabout in the middle of town, the famous Magic Roundabout with its six mini roundabouts, still catches people out, so leave a couple of minutes spare.

A quick wipe just smears it about. The heated tank lifts the grease and the scale in one go.

What the price covers

Everything below is part of a standard oven clean, not something sprung on you once we are inside.

  • Full strip-down and reassembly of the oven.
  • Dip-tank clean of every removable part: racks, trays, side runners, the fan cover, the inner door glass, plus range trivets and burners where there are any.
  • Enzyme cavity clean of the walls, roof, floor, back panel, fan, element and seals.
  • Both faces of the inner and outer door glass.
  • Hinges and the seal gasket cleaned and checked.
  • Control knobs and the front panel wiped down.
  • A function test before we leave, and same-day use, since nothing we use needs to burn off.
  • All products, all kit, and the travel right across Hemel Hempstead and Dacorum.

And the bit that will not sit on a tidy list: a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee. If something is not right, flag it to the technician before they leave and it is put right on the spot. Spot it after we have gone and a quick call brings us back out. In over ten years it seldom comes to that, but the guarantee is there so you never have to take the result on faith.

Booking a slot

It is a short phone call. Ring 0333 555 2076 and tell us the oven type, roughly how grim it has got, any add-ons like the hob or the extractor, and when works for you. We price it then and there, usually inside a couple of minutes, and book you in. Rather email? Send a photo of the inside to [email protected] and we will quote from that.

Most Hemel oven jobs land within three to five days, and midweek same-day or next-day slots come up often. Month-end is the busy patch, when move-out demand stacks up across Adeyfield and Grovehill, so if you are cleaning for an inspection give us a week where you can. On the day we turn up in a liveried van with the dip-tank aboard, and you are welcome to stay, head to work, or get on with something in the next room. There is a bit of scrubbing noise and no chemical smell at any stage. We test it, show you the result, take payment, and leave you an oven you would happily roast a joint in that night.

That is the whole of it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does oven cleaning cost in Hemel Hempstead?

A single oven is from £77 and a double oven from £110. A 90cm range cooker is from £114, and a two-oven AGA from £143. Add-ons on the same visit cost less: a hob is £23 to £28, an extractor hood £28, and a microwave £22. You get a firm figure on the phone before we set off, so nothing is a surprise on the day.

Do you cover all of Hemel Hempstead?

We do. The Old Town and Boxmoor in HP1, across to Adeyfield, Bennetts End and Leverstock Green, and up to Grovehill, Gadebridge and Fields End in HP2. If you are near the Plough roundabout or the A414 you are well inside our patch, and we run out to Berkhamsted and Tring as well. Ring with your postcode and we will confirm in seconds.

Can I use the oven the same day you clean it?

Yes, the minute we leave. The dip-tank uses a non-caustic, water-based degreaser rather than the harsh stuff, so nothing has to burn off and there is no chemical reek left hanging in the kitchen. Cooking your tea that same evening is no trouble at all.

Why does the hard water in Hemel Hempstead matter for oven cleaning?

Hemel sits on chalk and is supplied by Affinity Water, so the water is hard, measured around 283 to 333 parts per million in town. That scale bakes onto oven trays, hazes the inside of the door glass and crusts around the seals, bound up with grease. Our heated tank lifts the greasy, scaled film together rather than smearing it, which is why a wiped-over oven here still comes up cloudy.

How long does an oven clean take?

A standard single oven is about 90 minutes. A double runs nearer two hours, and a 90cm range cooker two to two and a half. An AGA can take a half-day because of the size and the cast iron. We give you a realistic time on the phone so you can plan the day around it.

Is the dip-tank method safe for my oven?

Yes. The tank is a warm water-based solution, kept well below the heat that would warp metal or lift a coating, and the cavity products are enzyme-based and enamel-safe. Most of the wrecked ovens we meet were ruined over years by caustic sprays stripping the enamel, or by wire pads scratching the glass. We use neither.

Do you clean the racks, trays and door glass too?

Every removable part comes out and goes in the tank: racks, trays, side runners and the fan cover. We also split the door and clean between the panes, which is where the haze you cannot wipe away actually sits. It all goes back exactly as it was.

When you can check your reflection in the oven door, it is done.

Do you clean range cookers and AGAs in the Hemel area?

We do, and the villages around Hemel have plenty of both. The big family range in a Boxmoor or Leverstock Green kitchen, the proper 90cm cooker that has fed a household for years, is everyday work for us. A two-oven AGA is from £143 and takes longer because of the cast iron and the enamel, but the result is worth the morning.

My oven is genuinely filthy. Will it cost extra?

Almost never. The tank does not care whether it is ten years of Sunday roasts or one spectacular spill that carbonised onto the oven floor. We only charge more for real damage, like enamel already gone from old caustic cleaners, and we tell you that straight on arrival, never after the fact.

Do you do oven cleaning for a move-out in Hemel Hempstead?

Constantly. The oven is the first thing an inventory clerk opens at a check-out, and a receipt on company-headed paper saying it was done properly usually settles the matter. If you are moving, our end of tenancy cleaning in Hemel Hempstead takes care of the oven as part of the job.

What payment do you take, and do I get a receipt?

Card or bank transfer on completion, and a receipt on company-headed paper. Ask and we will email it to [email protected] or to you within the hour. Keep it for a landlord or letting agent, because it is the proof a Hertfordshire inventory clerk wants to see at a move-out.

Is Monster Cleaning a real, insured company?

We are Monster Cleaning Ltd, Companies House number 9919639, trading since 2014, run from 255 Upper Richmond Road West, SW14 8QS, and every oven job carries a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee. Our Trustpilot sits at 3.1 out of 5 across 128 reviews, which we would sooner show you straight than dress up. Insurance papers are on request for managing agents.
