If you’ve cleaned up a flat above a shop on Upper Street, you already know roughly what our Islington round looks like. We’re hiring a domestic cleaner for regular fortnightly visits across N1, N5, N7, N19 and the EC1 fringe, paid £15 an hour weekly by bank transfer.

The short version
Monster Cleaning has been running rounds out of north London since 2014, and Islington is one of our denser patches. Most of the work sits on the spine between Angel and Archway, with a steady share around Highbury Fields and Holloway Road. Pay is £15 per hour, above the London Living Wage rate of £14.80 set by the Mayor for 2025–26, and we pay every Friday by bank transfer because chasing a first wage for a month is grim.
What the round actually looks like
Most clients are private flats: Victorian conversions off Liverpool Road, ex-local-authority blocks around Caledonian Road, and a fair number of newer builds around the City Road basin near Old Street. A handful of small offices on St John Street. Two or three end-of-tenancy slots a month, usually booked by lettings staff at Foxtons on 355 Upper Street or by Currell down towards the Angel. You’re cleaning to a standard those agents will sign off on a Friday afternoon, not to a vague “happy with it” standard.
You won’t be sent across the borough on a single shift. We cluster jobs by postcode so a Tuesday might be three flats around Highbury Fields and a Wednesday might be Archway and Tufnell Park.
Getting around
Islington runs north–south, and the transport does too. The Victoria line at Highbury & Islington and the Northern at Angel, Archway and Tufnell Park cover most of the patch, and the 4, 19, 43 and 271 buses fill in the gaps along Upper Street and Holloway Road. Overground at Highbury & Islington and Caledonian Road & Barnsbury is genuinely useful when you’re crossing east–west.

Parking, in plain English
Almost the whole borough is a Controlled Parking Zone. Hours vary by zone but most run Monday to Friday 8.30am–6.30pm and Saturday 8.30am–1.30pm. Resident permits are now electronic only and the Resident Roamer scheme lets permit-holders park in other Islington zones between 11am and 3pm Monday to Saturday. None of that helps a cleaner showing up at 9.30am on a Tuesday in a non-permit bay, which is why we tell you straight which jobs are walk-from-the-bus-stop and which jobs the client covers visitor parking on. ULEZ covers the whole borough, so if you drive, an electric or low-emission car saves you the daily charge.
Pay and pay rhythm
Fifteen pounds an hour. Weekly. Bank transfer.
Self-employed or PAYE, your call. Minimum visit is two hours; rounds are typically 4–6 hours a day across two or three clients. Travel between clustered jobs is paid at the same rate when it’s our scheduling, not yours.
Who we want
- ✓You’ve cleaned for pay before, in a private home or a small office. We’re not training from scratch this round.
- ✓You’ll text the night before if a job has to move.
- ✓You read English well enough to follow a written client note about a sticky kitchen door or a cat that bolts.
- ✓Right-to-work in the UK, evidenced on day one.
This role staffs our domestic cleaning in Islington, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning rounds, so there is steady local work all year.
