Why we use hot-water extraction
Hot-water extraction is the method most carpet manufacturers ask for in their warranties, and it is what we use on nearly every Islington job. People often call it steam cleaning. The second type is the ex-council flat. The council looks after one of the largest housing portfolios in London, more than 25,000 homes spread across 326 estates, and a lot of those flats are carpeted wall to wall. Solid floors, big open-plan living rooms, and a traffic lane worn from the front door to the kitchen. This is where the whole-flat £115 price earns its keep and where extraction makes the biggest visible difference, because the dirt in an open-plan room hides in plain sight until you do the first pass and see the clean stripe.

Pet accidents we treat with an enzyme product that goes after the smell itself, which matters because the smell sits in the underlay, well below the pile. A flat that has had a dog or a cat for a few years gets a noticeable lift, though a deep, long-soaked patch in the underlay is sometimes beyond a top-side clean.
What we are cautious about: old bleach marks, which are dye damage and not dirt, so the colour is simply gone; certain dyes from spilt drinks that have set for months; and burns, which are melted fibre. We can often improve the look around a damaged spot, but we will not pretend a bleach splash is coming back.
If the carpet is at the end of its life, threadbare in the lane and backing showing through, a clean will freshen it but it is still an old carpet underneath. We will say so. Spending £41 cleaning a stair carpet that needs replacing is not advice we are going to give you.
