If you’ve worked rounds in Preston before, you’ll know the city is a postcode patchwork that goes from old terraces near UCLan to 1930s semis across the river in five minutes. We’re hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Preston at £12 to £14 an hour, paid weekly into your bank, with regular rounds across PR1, PR2, PR3, PR4 and PR5.
That’s the answer to the obvious question. Below is the small print, plus the bits of local knowledge that actually matter for shift planning.
The five postcodes, in plain English
PR1 is the city centre, the streets around UCLan, Avenham and Frenchwood, and the long terrace stock running west of Fishergate. PR2 is where most of our private-home enquiries cluster: Fulwood, Ingol, Ashton-on-Ribble, Plungington, Ribbleton and Grimsargh. The Watling Street Road / Garstang Road corridor through Fulwood is one of the busiest stretches we cover. PR3 is the rural and semi-rural fringe heading north and east, taking in Broughton, Goosnargh, Longridge and Garstang, where rounds get longer because the houses sit further apart. PR4 is the western flank: Cottam, Lea, Bartle, Woodplumpton, Kirkham, Wrea Green and Longton. PR5 is the south side of the Ribble: Penwortham, Walton-le-Dale, Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge and Hoghton. If you live in any of those five postcodes, you can almost certainly fit a Preston round into your week.
What the housing actually looks like
The housing tells you most of what you need to know about how a clean will go. Plungington and the streets off Adelphi Street near UCLan are tight rows of late-Victorian two-up two-downs, often student lets or young professionals, usually short visits with a small footprint and tile-and-laminate floors. Ashton-on-Ribble has the heavier end-of-terrace and bay-fronted Edwardian stock, deeper plans, more carpet, longer visits. Fulwood off Black Bull Lane and Garstang Road is Edwardian villas and 1930s semis with bigger gardens and the kind of kitchens that take a proper hour. Penwortham over the river leans toward 1930s semis and post-war detached. Cottam and Bartle in PR4 are mostly modern estates from the last twenty years with open-plan ground floors and en-suite bathrooms upstairs. Ribbleton has post-war estate housing, and Longridge in PR3 is a mix of stone-built terraces and newer infill. We try to keep each cleaner inside one or two of those housing types per week so you’re not jumping from a Plungington terrace to a Bartle new-build inside one morning.
Pay, plainly
£12 to £14 an hour. Where you sit on the band depends on three things: travel distance from where you live, the size of the property, and whether the booking is a regular fortnightly visit or a one-off end-of-tenancy. Plungington and Ashton terraces tend to land at the lower end because the rooms are smaller and you can do two short visits in a morning. Fulwood villas and the larger Penwortham detacheds sit at the top of the band because the floor area is genuinely bigger and the visit runs to two and a half or three hours.

For comparison, Time For You Preston North quote £13 to £15 to the customer for their domestic cleaning, and the local Hamuch listings cluster around £13 an hour as the customer-facing rate. Our £12 to £14 is the cleaner’s actual hourly figure, paid into your account with no agency cut.
Getting around without losing an hour to the Fishergate gyratory
Preston station on Fishergate sits on the West Coast Main Line, with Avanti West Coast running direct services to London Euston, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley, plus TransPennine and Northern services to Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool and the Lakes. If you live in Lancaster, Chorley, Leyland, Blackburn or Wigan you can be on a Preston round inside half an hour by train. The Brutalist Preston Bus Station off Tithebarn Street, Grade II listed in 2013 and refurbished in 2018, is the main hub for the rest. Stagecoach buses fan out from there to every PR postcode, and if you don’t drive you can plan most of a Preston rota around them. If you do drive, two practical things. First, the Fishergate gyratory and the Ringway loop around the city centre snarl badly between 8 and 9.30am, so we never book a 9am clean inside PR1 if your start point is south of the Ribble. Second, on Preston North End match days at Deepdale on Sir Tom Finney Way, the streets through Deepdale and Ribbleton stiffen for about ninety minutes either side of kick-off; PNE play 11 second-half home games this season including Sheffield Wednesday on New Year’s Day and Southampton at the start of May, and we plan rounds around them.
Where the end-of-tenancy work comes from
A real chunk of our PR1 and PR2 bookings come through letting agents with student-adjacent and young-professional stock. Kingswood on Watling Street Road in Fulwood (PR2 8EA) and a second branch on Lune Street in PR1 send a steady flow of mid-summer end-of-tenancies through us, particularly around the UCLan term-end window. Those are tight-window jobs, often a single day between tenants, sometimes a same-day turnaround when a check-out runs late and the next tenant arrives at five. If you can do those days at short notice, please say so when you apply. We pay them at the top of the band.
A few Preston-specific things you’ll get used to
The Harris Museum on the Flag Market reopened in September 2025 after a £19m restoration, and it now opens 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday with a 9pm Thursday late, which matters because Cheapside and Friargate get busier in the evenings on Thursday and Saturday. Avenham and Miller Parks down by the Ribble run the annual Easter Monday Egg Rolling, a city tradition since 1867 that pulls tens of thousands of people across the slopes, and on that Monday morning the South Meadow Lane and Ribblesdale Place approach is a non-starter for parking. UCLan term dates run roughly late September to mid-June across PR1, and Plungington shifts noticeably in late June when the student stock empties for the summer. Garstang Road through Fulwood is the spine route in PR2, and the school-run window between 8.10 and 8.45 around Preston Grammar and Broughton High School noticeably slows it.

What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
This role staffs our domestic cleaning in Preston, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning rounds, so there is steady local work all year.
