If you’ve ever taken the Central line out to Hainault, you’ll know the Hainault Loop is the only branch on the network where eastbound trains turn into westbound trains halfway round, and that quirk shapes our Redbridge rota more than people expect.
We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners across Redbridge at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly, on regular rounds through IG1 to IG8, E11 and E18.
That’s the answer most cleaners are scrolling for. Now the detail.
Where the rota actually sits in Redbridge
The borough is long and split by housing era, and we route the rota by housing type rather than postcode, because the time on each clean tracks the building, not the IG number on the door.
About a third of our work runs along the Hainault Loop itself. Maintenance cleans in the post-war estates around Hainault and Barkingside, plus a steady drumbeat of mansion-block flats above the shops at Gants Hill, where the station ticket hall sits under the A12 roundabout and the barrel-vaulted concourse is the one Charles Holden modelled on the Moscow Metro after Soviet architects came to London in 1936. It looks like nothing else on the Tube. Cleaners we’ve sent there for the first time always mention it.
Another third is in Wanstead and South Woodford, around the Edwardian terraces of the Aldersbrook Estate and the streets backing onto Wanstead Park and Wanstead Flats. Most of those houses were built between 1899 and 1910, which means tall ceilings, picture rails, and original tiles in the hallway that genuinely benefit from someone who knows not to attack them with a scouring pad. Two or three end-of-tenancy slots a month come in via Sandra Davidson on the High Street in Wanstead and Kurtis Property in South Woodford, both of whom have been on the same patch for over twenty-five years.
The last third is split between mock-Tudor semis around Woodford Green (Monkhams Estate, Tudor Close, the streets off The Glade) and the modern flats around Ilford station, which got the Elizabeth line on 24 May 2022 and now sees roughly eight Paddington-bound trains an hour off-peak. The new-build blocks behind Ilford station tend to be fast turnaround work, often booked through letting agents like Charlesons and Oakland Estates.
What it pays, in plain numbers
£13 to £15 an hour, depending on experience and the type of clean. £13 is the rate for a first regular maintenance round if you’ve cleaned domestically before but haven’t run a paid round; £14 once you’ve stayed past the first month and proven reliable; £15 for after-builders, end-of-tenancy and the heavier mansion-block work in Gants Hill where the floors take an hour longer than the brief implies. For honest comparison: Cleaning at Home advertises £18.50 an hour as the customer rate in Ilford, but that’s the price the household pays, not the cleaner’s wage. Buzz Maids and Maid2Clean run similar customer-facing rates across IG1 to IG8. We pay £13 to £15 because the rota is built around keeping cleaners for years, and the rate sits comfortably above the National Living Wage of £11.44 an hour.

Three Redbridge quirks worth knowing before day one
- ✓The Hainault Loop runs differently in peak versus off-peak, so a job on the Inner Rail side at 9.30am is not the same commute as the same job at 8am. We tell you which side of the loop a clean sits on the morning before, because the difference can be a fifteen-minute walk through Fairlop Waters or a direct platform-to-door step.
- ✓Wanstead and South Woodford sit on the boundary with Epping Forest, and the Wanstead Flats access points off Centre Road and Aldersbrook Road change with the gorse-cutting and ground-nesting bird seasons; on a couple of jobs near the Flats, the easiest walk-in changes by month. We flag those.
- ✓The Chigwell border at the top end of Woodford Green is technically Essex, not Redbridge, so the IG7 postcode at the north edge of our patch crosses into Epping Forest district. The work is the same; the council parking permits are not. We sort the permit side, not you.
What we want from you
You’ll have cleaned before, properly. Domestic experience, end-of-tenancy experience, or a mix of both, all fine. We are not training from zero on this round, because the Edwardian-terrace and after-builders work in particular needs someone who already knows what they’re doing on original surfaces and post-plaster dust.
You’ll text the night before if a job needs to move. That’s the rule we actually care about, because the Hainault Loop and the Elizabeth line schedule mean a missed slot has an hour-and-a-half knock-on, not ten minutes.
