What it costs

What a regular visit covers
Every visit runs to the same checklist, stretched or trimmed to fit your home and the hours you have booked. The two rooms that earn their keep are the kitchen and the bathroom; the rest of the place gets dusted, hoovered and mopped around them. If a smaller flat is finished early, the cleaner uses the time left on the jobs that only come round occasionally rather than knocking off.
The kitchen is where the local water shows. It is hard enough here to film a clean tap inside a fortnight, so taps, sink, worktops and splashback are descaled as well as wiped and disinfected every time. The hob gets a proper going-over, burners lifted and the bits underneath checked, and the fronts of the oven, extractor, fridge and dishwasher are wiped down. Floor mopped, bins emptied.
The bathroom is the slowest room in any Redbridge home, again because of the water. The bath, shower screen and tiles take a scrub and a descale. Redbridge is not one kind of housing, and the clean changes from street to street.
A great deal of it went up between the wars, when the railway and then the Tube pulled London out this way and street after street of bay-windowed 1930s semis appeared. Around Ilford town centre it is a different story. New flats have gone up quickly since the Elizabeth line cut the run into central London, and a lot of them are let and turn over, so we do a fair few first-cleans when someone moves in. Out at Wanstead and South Woodford you are back into bigger houses with gardens, the Aldersbrook streets among the most sought-after in the borough.

Parking around the borough is a mixed picture. The inner Ilford streets are the tight ones.

The council has been consulting on new zones around Seven Kings and Goodmayes too, so a road free to park on today may not be in a year.
Where a job genuinely needs a car and your road is on permits, we ask whether you can lend a visitor permit for the slot, or the cleaner parks legally further out and walks in. Either way it is sorted before the first visit, not improvised on the doorstep.
