Part-time domestic cleaner wanted across Merton at £14 to £16 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds covering SW19, SW20, SM4 and CR4. That is the answer capsule. Everything else is the small print and an honest read on what the work is like in this borough.
Merton runs longer than people think. The map starts at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Church Road, drops south through Wimbledon Park and the 1930s semis around Augustus Road, dips through the centre at Wimbledon station (District line, South Western trains, Tramlink), then keeps going down to Morden, the southern end of the Northern line since 13 September 1926. East from the centre, you cross into Colliers Wood, Mitcham Cricket Green and the CR4 edge near Mitcham Junction. We have rounds in all of those places. Not every cleaner takes every patch, and that is fine.
Pay and how it actually lands
Pay is £14 to £16 per hour, depending on the round. The lower end is regular maintenance work in flats. The higher end is the bigger jobs in Wimbledon Village and the Parkside houses overlooking Wimbledon Common, where the rooms are larger and the brief is a bit more particular. Bank transfer every Friday. We pay weekly because monthly is awful when you are new and waiting on a first wage.
For comparison, Cleaning Express around here advertises £14.80 an hour for cleaners in SW19, and Maid2Clean Wimbledon sits a bit higher on agency-rate work. We pay you, not the customer minus a margin.
The Wimbledon fortnight
One thing this borough has that no other patch does: The Championships. The 2026 tournament runs 29 June to 12 July, and the streets within a mile of the All England Club shift gear for two weeks. Airbnb turnovers spike, visiting clients book one-off cleans, and letting agents like Ellisons (Wimbledon, Morden, Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, since 1989) and Robert Holmes in Wimbledon Village ask for fast turnaround end-of-tenancy slots. If you can keep your diary loose for that fortnight you can earn a fair bit more than usual. We do not require you to. It is offered, not assumed.
The patches and what they are like
- ✓Wimbledon Village (SW19): the premium end. Victorian and Edwardian villas around Murray Road, mansion flats off the Common. Slower, more thorough work.
- ✓Wimbledon Park and Southfields edge (SW19/SW18 fringe): mostly 1930s semis. Two-and-a-half-hour fortnightly cleans are the bread and butter.
- ✓Colliers Wood (SW19): mostly Victorian terraces converted to flats, plus newer blocks behind the high street. Walk to Merton Abbey Mills on a Saturday and you have got most of our Colliers Wood rota in the postcodes around it.
- ✓Mitcham (CR4): post-war estates and 1930s semis, lower hourly count but you can chain three or four cleans on a single Tramlink trip. Belgrave Walk to Mitcham Junction is six stops.
- ✓Morden (SM4): a lot of 1930s semis and a fair number of newer flats around the tube. Easy access from the Northern line first train if you are travelling in.
Parking, transport, and shift-time honesty
Mitcham, big chunks of Wimbledon, and parts of Colliers Wood sit inside Merton Council CPZs. Hours vary street by street. The council updated several of its CPZ orders on 7 May 2025, which mostly affects which side of the road you can stop on for ten minutes. We give you a permit code where the client pays. If you do not drive, the Tramlink between Wimbledon and Mitcham is honestly the easiest way to chain jobs in CR4 and the south of the borough.
What we want from you
You will have cleaned before, properly. We are not training a complete beginner this round.
You text the night before if a job needs to move. Not on the morning.
That bit matters.
You will turn up. Cribs Estates, on Merton High Street, told us last summer that the biggest single complaint they get on managed lets is no-shows. We will not be the firm that makes that worse.
Hours and shape of the role
Part-time. Most cleaners do between 12 and 25 hours a week. Mornings and early afternoons are where the demand is. Saturday slots exist if you want them, weighted slightly higher for the inconvenience.
This role staffs our domestic cleaning in Merton, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning rounds, so there is steady local work all year.
