If you’ve cleaned in Slough before, you’ll already know the rhythm: the trading estate runs on shift-work, the Mars factory in particular runs continental shifts of two days, two nights, four off, and that pulls the cleaning week out of its usual Monday-to-Friday shape. We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners in Slough at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds across SL1, SL2 and SL3.
That sentence is the answer. Below is how the work actually fits together.
The patch, in plain terms
Slough is a small town that pretends to be a big one, and the housing stock proves it. The Victorian terraces sit close to the station and Salt Hill, the post-war semis cluster in Cippenham and around the older parts of Langley, and Britwell is mostly the 1960s estate built to rehouse Londoners after the war. Add the Edwardian villas in Upton Park around Herschel Park, the modern apartments going up around the trading estate redevelopment on Bath Road, and a long fringe of inter-war ribbon along the A4. The work splits along those lines. A two-hour maintenance clean on a Britwell three-bed is not the same job as a four-hour clean on an Upton Park villa, and the pay reflects it.
What it pays
£13 to £15 an hour. Where you sit on the band depends on how far the round is from where you live, the property type, and whether the client is a regular fortnightly or a one-off. Britwell, Manor Park and central Slough rounds usually pay the lower end because you can do two or three flats in a morning without moving the car much. Cippenham, Langley and the bigger Upton Park houses sit higher up the band because the floor area is genuinely bigger and the travel time eats more of your day.
Friday transfer. Every week.
We pay weekly because monthly is awful when you’re new and waiting on a first wage, and frankly the admin’s no easier either way.
Getting around Slough
You don’t need a car. Slough station is on the Elizabeth line, with direct trains to Reading, Heathrow and into central London via Paddington, and the GWR services on top of that. If you live anywhere between Reading and Ealing, the commute in is fine. The local bus network covers the edges that the train doesn’t: route 7 between Britwell and Heathrow, route 2 from Slough through Chalvey to Cippenham Green, route 70 down to Langley and Iver. We try to set rounds so each cleaner stays in one or two postcodes a day, which is easier on the legs and the bus pass.
If you do drive, useful to know: Slough Borough Council operates parking permit zones around the town centre and the worst-pinched residential streets near the station. We hand you a visitor permit code where the client pays for it, and we’ll tell you straight when a job is a walk-from-the-bus-stop one. The trading estate has its own parking on Bath Road and Buckingham Avenue, and the on-estate residential blocks usually come with allocated bays.
The shift-pattern angle
Worth a separate paragraph because it’s the most Slough-specific thing about the work. Around 20,000 people work on the trading estate across roughly 500 businesses, and a fair slice of those are on shift rotas of one kind or another. Add Heathrow shift-workers living locally because the Elizabeth line and the 7 bus make the airport commute easy, and you end up with a meaningful share of clients who are home at unusual times and want their cleaner at unusual times. Saturday morning visits, late-afternoon visits, the occasional Wednesday slot when the rest of Slough is at work but the client has just finished a four-night run. We accommodate that. If you can only do school hours we’ll work around that too, but if you can do one Saturday morning a fortnight we’ll prioritise you on the better rounds.
Who we’re after
- ✓You’ve cleaned before, paid or seriously domestic. We are not training from zero this round.
- ✓You answer your phone, or text back inside an hour or two when you’re on a job.
- ✓You’ll text the night before if a job needs to move. Rebooks we can handle, no-shows we cannot.
- ✓Right-to-work paperwork on day one. No exceptions.
What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
A note on the local market
Slough has more cleaning firms than the size of the town would suggest, partly because the trading estate creates demand and partly because the letting agents are busy. Berkshire Cleaning Ltd advertise rates from £12 an hour for domestic work; Belle Casa quote from £17.75 an hour at the customer end. Our pay band sits between those because we’re paying the cleaner the actual hourly figure, not a rate the customer pays before our cut. We pick up a steady stream of end-of-tenancy work through the bigger letting agents in town: the Frost Partnership covers Slough, Britwell, Chalvey, Cippenham, Manor Park, Salt Hill, Upton Lea, Upton Park and Wexham from their Slough branch, and Glenn Flegg, who’ve been running since 1991, send us bookings across Burnham, Cippenham, Datchet, Iver and Langley. Those are tight-window jobs, usually a single day between tenants.
