Catalytic and self-clean liner panels are the one exception. Those rough panels in the back and sides of some ovens must never be scrubbed or dipped, or you wreck the coating that does the self-cleaning. We leave them be and clean around them. Just tell us before we start if your oven has them. A quick word at the door saves a ruined panel and a good deal of bad feeling.
Hobs, extractors, microwaves, ranges and AGAs
Most people book the oven, then add the hob the moment they realise a clean oven makes the hob beside it look far worse than it did. Gas hobs take longer than ceramic. The burner caps, the crowns and the cast trivets all lift off and go into the tank, then go back on clean and seated properly, so the flame burns evenly again instead of guttering on one side.
Extractors are the bit nearly everyone forgets, and a grease filter sitting over a hob in daily use turns into a solid, sticky mat that is a real fire risk as much as a smell. We degrease the metal mesh filters and wipe the canopy down. The carbon filters in recirculating hoods are usually a replace-not-clean part, so we check yours and tell you straight whether it is worth keeping or past it. Slough water, and what it does to oven glass
