If you have cleaned anywhere in Sutton before, you already know two things about this borough: there is no tube, and most of the housing is interwar semis. Both shape how the rota actually works. The cleaner who can plan around a Thameslink timetable and read a 1930s floor plan does fine here. The one who needs the Northern line does not.
We are hiring part-time domestic cleaners across the London Borough of Sutton at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly on Fridays, on fortnightly rounds across SM1, SM2, SM3, SM5, SM6 and SM7.
That is the headline. Everything below is the small print and the bits the aggregator listings do not bother with.
Where the rota actually goes
The bulk of the work sits in private homes around the four obvious clusters. Sutton town itself, the streets behind the High Street pedestrian stretch where Times Square and the Quadrant meet, with mansion flats above the shops on the Carshalton Road end. Cheam Village and the Edwardian and Victorian villas off The Broadway, which is where Christies have been selling for over eighty years and Centro manage a fair chunk of the rented stock. Carshalton, the streets either side of the spring-fed Carshalton Ponds and Honeywood Museum, where the village pond is technically two ponds split since at least the fifteenth century. And Hackbridge, including the BedZED eco-village, the UK’s first large-scale zero-carbon community, where the cowls on the roofs are not decoration and the windows have triple glazing on three sides out of four.
End-of-tenancy slots come in mostly through Patricia Shepherd Letting and Management for the Wallington and Hackbridge end, and through Barnard Marcus on Regent Parade in Sutton for the SM1 and SM2 end. The post-war estate stock around St Helier (mostly SM5 and the SM4 fringe) is a smaller but steady chunk: smaller homes, faster cleans.
Pay, in plain numbers
Thirteen to fifteen pounds an hour. The exact rate depends on the type of clean and the postcode. Standard maintenance cleans in private homes start at £13. Longer-haul rounds out at the SM7 fringe near Banstead, end-of-tenancy slots, and the BedZED jobs (the eco-tech is a learning curve) sit at £15. Bank transfer every Friday for the previous week, no exceptions, no monthly cycle. We pay weekly because monthly is awful when you have just started.
Friday. Like clockwork.

The transport reality
There is no Underground. Sutton was meant to get the Northern line back in the 1920s and the deal collapsed at Morden, which is why the Northern line still terminates one stop short of the borough. What you actually have is Thameslink running the Sutton Loop through West Sutton, Sutton Common, Hackbridge, Mitcham Junction, Streatham and Wimbledon, and South Western Railway plus Southern out of Sutton station with four trains an hour to Victoria and two to London Bridge. Carshalton, Carshalton Beeches, Cheam, Wallington and Hackbridge are all on Thameslink or Southern. Belmont sits south of Sutton on the Sutton to Epsom Downs line.
Bus-wise the 80, 154, 157, 213 and 280 do most of the linking work between Sutton, Carshalton and Wallington, and the X26 from Heathrow to West Croydon clips the borough at Wallington if you ever need it.
Parking, the council bit
Sutton runs Controlled Parking Zones across most of the inner streets in SM1, SM2 and parts of SM5. Households inside a CPZ get fifty free hours of visitor parking permits a year from the council, which is the relevant bit for us: when a client lives in a CPZ and is happy to use one of those visitor hours, we will sort the permit code. When they cannot or will not, we either price the meter parking into the job or you walk from the bus stop. We tell you in advance which one a job is.
What we want from you
- ✓Some real cleaning experience, professional or seriously domestic. Not training someone from zero on this round.
- ✓You turn up. The agency we picked up the Cheam Village rounds from last autumn was missing slots; we are not going to repeat that on the other side.
- ✓A text the night before if a job needs to move.
- ✓Right-to-work paperwork done before the first shift. ID and a recent utility bill is enough.
