By 7am most weekdays the buses on Wick Road are full of trades heading into the new-build sites around Hackney Wick. We work the same shifts in reverse, finishing flats just after the trades leave them.
We’re hiring domestic and after-builders cleaners across Hackney at £14.80 an hour, paid weekly, with a fortnightly route weighted toward E9 and N16.

Where the work actually sits
About half our Hackney rota is in E9, on and around Hackney Wick station. The Mildmay line runs through it, the 30 bus from Hackney Wick to Euston covers most of the rest, and the 388 picks up anyone coming from London Bridge. A growing share of our jobs there are after-builders cleans on the new developments off Wick Lane and around Wickside, where flats keep handing over in waves through 2026. If you’ve cleaned plaster dust off a kitchen extractor before, you’ll be useful to us straight away.
The other half splits between N16 around Stoke Newington Church Street and E5 on the Lower Clapton side. Maintenance cleans in private flats, mostly. Two or three small offices on Stamford Hill. End-of-tenancy slots booked through letting agents on Mare Street, including Stirling Ackroyd at number 338 and Hunters in Stoke Newington, who’ve been on the same patch for over a decade.
Pay, plain numbers
£14.80 an hour. That is the London Living Wage rate for 2025–26. Paid every Friday, by bank transfer.
For honest comparison: Housekeep’s Hackney listing pays £12.50 in your first year, £13.00 after a year. Diamond Home Support’s Hackney franchise rate sits lower again, around £9 plus tips depending on the franchisee. We pay more because we keep our rota tight and we want cleaners to stay.
Self-employed or PAYE, your call. Both work. We do not deduct training fees, agency fees, or admin fees.
Hackney quirks that affect the working day
Three things are worth knowing before you start.
- The borough-wide additional HMO and selective licensing scheme begins on 1 May 2026, which means letting agents have been quietly bringing forward end-of-tenancy turnarounds since early spring. The work spike in May and June is real. We will not pretend otherwise.
- Parking is per-zone, not borough-wide. Zone N covers Homerton and Lower Clapton with Monday to Friday enforcement from 7:30am to 6:30pm, which is earlier than most other Hackney CPZs. If a job is in Zone N we tell you the morning before. If a job is reachable from the bus stop, we tell you that too.
- ULEZ applies. If you drive, low-emission is sensible. If you don’t drive, the Mildmay line and the 30, 38, 55, 73, 242 and 388 buses cover almost everything we’d send you to.
What we want from you
You’ll have cleaned before. Properly.
We’re not training from a standing start this round, because the after-builders work in particular needs someone who already knows what a tile haze film looks like and what to do about it without using something that scratches the surface. Domestic-only experience is fine if it’s substantial, and we’ll pair you with our existing cleaners on the first builders’ clean so you see how we run them.
You’ll text the night before if a job needs to move. That’s the rule we actually care about. The Pembury and London Fields rounds rely on people knowing twelve hours ahead, not twelve minutes.
This role staffs our domestic cleaning in Hackney, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning rounds, so there is steady local work all year.
