Saturday on Broadway Market, half the flats above the stalls have an oven they are quietly ashamed of. We clean a lot of them. Oven cleaning in Hackney runs from £77 for a single oven, done in a non-caustic dip-tank and ready to use the same day. Racks, trays and the inner door glass drop into a heated tank in the van while we hand-clean the cavity, so there is no caustic stink and no afternoon lost with the windows flung open. The roast can go back in the minute we pull away. Ring 0333 555 2076 for a firm price in about ninety seconds.

Last updated April 2026. Covering E8, E9, E5 and N16 across the borough, from London Fields, Broadway Market and Mare Street through Dalston, Haggerston and Hackney Central, out to Homerton and Clapton, and up to Stoke Newington and Shacklewell.

What an oven clean costs in Hackney

Prices first, because that is what the phone rings about. A single oven is from £77. A double, the tall built-in sort with two cavities, is from £110. A 90cm range cooker is from £114, and a two-oven AGA from £143. Tell us the cooker type and roughly how grim it has got, and you get a firm figure before the van leaves.

The whole kit travels in the van, so anything sat around the oven is cheaper bolted onto the same visit than booked on its own. A hob is £23 to £28, depending on whether it is gas, ceramic or induction. An extractor hood with its filter is £28. A microwave is £22. Plenty of Hackney customers add the hob and the extractor on the day, once they clock how the grease on them suddenly shows next to a clean oven.

No call-out fee. The price covers the products, the kit and the drive across the borough, and you pay on the day by card or bank transfer. You also get a receipt on company headed paper, which counts for more than people expect. A Hackney letting agent will usually want proof the oven was done properly before a deposit goes back, and a line scrawled on a notepad will not cut it.

How we actually clean an oven

Most of the trade runs a dip-tank of one sort or another. What sorts a good clean from a poor one is the chemistry, the bits people skip, and whether the person doing it has done a handful or a few thousand. Ours have done the few thousand. Here is the order it runs in.

  1. The floor goes down and the worktop either side gets covered. The oven comes off the wall and cools right down if it has been on that day.
  2. Everything that lifts out, lifts out. Racks, trays, runners, the fan cover, and the inner door glass. Modern doors have a removable inner pane, and the baked film hiding between the layers is the real reason an oven still looks dirty after you have scrubbed it raw. We unclip that pane. Most people never knew it came out.
  3. The removable parts go into a heated tank in the van, a non-caustic water-based degreaser held around 60C. Twenty to forty minutes in there shifts the lot: carbon, baked grease, the sugar glaze welded to a tray, the hard-water scale crusted round the grill pan.
  4. While they soak we work the cavity by hand. Enzyme degreaser on the walls, roof, floor and back panel, left to dwell so the chemistry does the lifting in place of your wrist. Then non-abrasive pads, detail brushes round the seal channel and the element, and a microfibre finish. The fan blade gets extra time, because that is where carbon does the lasting harm.
  5. Parts out, rinsed, dried, refitted. Door glass cleaned on both faces, gasket wiped, runners back in their slots. Exactly as we found it.
  6. A quick function test. Oven on, fan turning, handed back ready to cook on.

It is not glamorous work, and we have never pretended otherwise. It is the difference between an oven that looks a bit better and one that is genuinely clean down to the element, which is where the thing decides how long it lasts. Carbon caked on the fan and element is the commonest reason the rented ovens we meet at a Hackney check-out have already packed up, and a clean twice a year works out far cheaper than a new oven fitted.

We have seen worse. Honestly.

Thames Water, limescale and your oven

Hackney has a scale problem, and ovens cop it as badly as kettles do. Thames Water supplies the whole borough, drawing the supply through the chalk of the Thames Valley, so what comes out of the tap is very hard, up around 280 to 300 parts per million of calcium carbonate. Every time steam off a roasting tin or a pan of greens hits cold metal, a little more scale gets left behind. Grill pans go cloudy, door glass films over, and the chrome on the racks turns dull and rough under your thumb.

Grease and scale together are stubborn in a way grease alone is not. A supermarket spray is built for the grease and slides straight over the scale, which is why so many flats around London Fields and Dalston end up with an oven that smells clean but still looks tired. The dip-tank takes on both at once. The warm water-based solution lifts the carbon and the calcium deposits off the same tray in one soak, and the racks come out smooth again instead of gritty.

A clean oven cooks cleaner: no smoke, no old-grease smell, just dinner.

You can look your own road up on the Thames Water hardness pages if you fancy it. We are not here to sell you a softener. We are just saying that if you live in Hackney, the scale is doing quiet damage to your oven on top of the grease, and a proper clean has to deal with the pair of them or it has not really done the job.

Hackney kitchens and the ovens in them

You can date a Hackney kitchen by the cooker in it. The streets around London Fields and Broadway Market are mostly late-Victorian stock-brick terraces, two to four storeys, a great many long ago carved into flats, each with its own oven taking heavy weeknight use inside a conservation area where ripping the kitchen out and starting again is simply not allowed. Walk towards the canal and Haggerston and you hit the warehouse conversions, old printworks and light-industrial units turned into lofts from the 1990s on, fitted with sleek integrated ovens that look easy and are anything but.

East into Homerton and Clapton, and across the bigger estates around Pembury, it turns to compact galley kitchens with a single built-in oven that has fed a family hard for years. Up in Stoke Newington and Shacklewell there are solid Edwardian terraces and the odd grand villa, again mostly subdivided. The integrated ovens are the ones people most often give up on by hand: the door glass clouds fast and the racks tuck right to the back where a sponge will not go.

Getting a tank around Hackney is its own small art. We work off the Overground at London Fields, Hackney Central and Dalston Junction, and the borough has no Underground of its own to lean on, so the buses down Mare Street and Kingsland Road do a lot of the work. The local quirk worth knowing is the London Fields low traffic neighbourhood, in since June 2020, with traffic filters and planters on roads like Wilton Way, Richmond Road and Greenwood Road that a van cannot drive straight through. If your street sits inside it, tell us when you book and we plan the approach. The other one is parking: Hackney went cashless years ago, so its bays are paid through RingGo rather than a meter, and the controlled zones only bite during their posted hours. The whole borough sits inside the ULEZ too, which runs every day bar Christmas, so an old diesel left outside your flat is a daily charge whether we are there or not.

What the price includes

Everything below is part of a standard oven clean, not an extra once we are through the door.

  • Full strip-down and reassembly of the oven.
  • Dip-tank clean of every removable part: racks, trays, side runners, fan cover, inner door glass, plus range trivets and burners where there are any.
  • Enzyme cavity clean of the walls, roof, floor, back panel, fan, element and seals.
  • Both faces of the inner and outer door glass.
  • Hinges and the seal gasket cleaned and checked.
  • Control knobs and the front panel wiped down.
  • A function test before we go, and same-day use, because nothing we use has to burn off.
  • All products, all kit, and the drive across Hackney.

And the part that does not sit on a tidy list: a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee. If something is not right, flag it to the technician before they pack up and it gets put right on the spot. Spot it after we have gone and one phone call brings us back. In over ten years it rarely comes to that, but the guarantee is there so you are not taking it on trust.

How booking works

It is a short phone call. Ring 0333 555 2076 and tell us the oven type, roughly how bad it is, any add-ons like the hob or extractor, and when suits you. We price it on the spot, usually inside two minutes, and book the slot. You can also email [email protected] if you would rather put it in writing.

Most Hackney oven jobs land within three to five days, and same-day or next-day slots come up often midweek. Month-end is the busy patch, when move-out cleans stack up across the borough, so if you are cleaning for an inspection, give us a week where you can. On the day we turn up in a liveried van with the dip-tank aboard, and you are welcome to stay, head to work, or get on with something in another room. There is a bit of scrubbing noise and no chemical smell at any point. We test it, show you the result, take payment, and leave you an oven you would happily put a Sunday roast in. Not sure how bad yours counts as? Send a photo of the inside over the phone and we quote it properly.

We are Monster Cleaning Ltd, registered at 255 Upper Richmond Road West, SW14 8QS, and Hackney is one of the boroughs our vans run in week in, week out.

Frequently asked questions

How much does oven cleaning cost in Hackney?

A single oven is from £77, a double from £110, and a 90cm range cooker from £114. A two-oven AGA is from £143. Bolted onto the same visit, a hob is £23 to £28, an extractor hood £28, and a microwave £22. You get a firm figure on the phone first, so the price on the day is the one you agreed.

Can I use the oven the same day you clean it?

Yes, the moment we drive off. The dip-tank is non-caustic and water-based, so nothing has to burn off and there is no waiting around with the windows open. Dinner can go straight back in. That is the main reason Hackney people pick us over a supermarket spray and a wasted afternoon.

Do you cover all of Hackney?

Yes. London Fields, Broadway Market and Mare Street in the middle, Dalston and Haggerston to the west, Hackney Central, Homerton and Clapton to the east, and Stoke Newington and Shacklewell up north. If your postcode starts E8, E9, E5 or N16 you are inside the patch. Ring with your postcode and we confirm in seconds.

Hackney has hard water. Does that hurt my oven?

It does, more than people expect. Thames Water draws this part of London through chalk, so it runs very hard, around 280 to 300 parts per million of calcium carbonate. Scale builds fast on grill pans, door glass and any metal that meets steam. We lift the scale along with the grease, and the tank does both off the racks without scratching them.

Will the London Fields low traffic neighbourhood get in the way?

No, but it is worth flagging when you book. Since June 2020 there have been traffic filters on roads like Wilton Way, Richmond Road and Greenwood Road, so a van cannot drive straight through some of them. We know the way in and park legally nearby, then carry the kit the last bit. It adds a couple of minutes, nothing more.

How long does an oven clean take?

A single oven is about 90 minutes. A double is closer to two hours, a 90cm range two to two and a half. An AGA can run to a half-day because of its size and the enamel. We give you a realistic time on the phone so you can plan the rest of your day around the slot.

First bake in a freshly cleaned oven always smells the best.

Do you clean the racks, trays and door glass too?

Every part that lifts out comes out and goes in the dip-tank: racks, trays, side runners and the fan cover. We also split the door and clean between the panes, which is where the brown film you can never wipe away actually sits. It all goes back exactly as it came out.

Is the method safe for the oven and the kitchen?

Yes. The tank is warm and water-based, kept well below the heat that would warp metal or lift a coating, and the cavity products are enzyme-based and enamel-safe. Most of the real damage we meet in Hackney ovens came from years of caustic spray stripping the enamel, or wire wool scratching the glass. We use neither.

Do you clean pyrolytic or self-cleaning ovens?

Yes, and plenty of Hackney owners of them still book us. The self-clean cycle bakes the cavity to ash but leaves the door glass, the racks and the fan cover untouched, and it does nothing for the hob or the extractor. Most owners run the cycle now and then and have us in once a year for the rest.

Can you do the oven as part of a move-out clean?

Yes. The oven is the first thing a Hackney letting agent checks at a check-out, so it is built into every end of tenancy booking as standard. If you only need the oven doing for an inspection, we can do that on its own too, with a receipt on headed paper that an inventory clerk will accept.

Is Monster Cleaning a real, insured company?

Yes. We are Monster Cleaning Ltd, Companies House number 9919639, trading since 2014, with a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee on every job. Our Trustpilot sits at 3.1 out of 5 across 128 reviews, which we would rather show you straight than dress up. Insurance papers go to landlords and managing agents on request.
