Ask any cleaner who has worked Lordship Lane on a Saturday and they will tell you the same thing: the parking is the bit that ruins a clean morning. The clean itself is straightforward. We’re hiring domestic cleaners across Southwark at £15.50 an hour, paid weekly by bank transfer, on regular fortnightly rounds across SE1, SE5, SE15, SE16, SE17 and the SE21 / SE22 Dulwich edge.

Where the round actually sits
Most of our Southwark work tracks the 63 bus and the Overground Windrush line. The 63 runs Honor Oak through Peckham Rye, Burgess Park, Old Kent Road, Elephant & Castle, Southwark and on toward Farringdon, which is roughly the spine of our patch on the western half of the borough. The Windrush line, meanwhile, gives you Peckham Rye, Queens Road Peckham and Rotherhithe in one stop hops, useful when a Tuesday is two flats off Lordship Lane and a Wednesday is a Rotherhithe new-build.
The work mix is mostly maintenance cleans in private flats: Victorian conversions on the side streets off Bellenden Road and Bushey Hill Road, ex-local-authority blocks around Walworth Road and the Aylesbury, and a steady share of newer builds behind Canada Water and along the Old Kent Road regeneration line. A handful of small offices around London Bridge and Borough. Two or three end-of-tenancy slots a month, usually booked by lettings staff at Pedder on 91-93 Queens Road in Peckham, or the East Dulwich Pedder office on Lordship Lane.
Pay, plainly
£15.50 an hour. Above the London Living Wage rate of £14.80 set by the Mayor for 2025-26, and above the £14.80 most of the bigger Southwark agencies (Cleaning Express, Cleaning at Home) advertise as their living-wage option. Bank transfer every Friday for the previous week’s hours. Self-employed or PAYE, your call.

Why the pay rhythm matters
We pay weekly because monthly is awful when you’re new and waiting on a first wage. That is the entire reason. Some Southwark agencies pay per clean in cash on the doorstep; some pay monthly via PAYE; we sit in the middle on Fridays and it works. If you’ve ever started a job in late September and waited until 28 October for any money, you already understand.
Southwark things you’ll learn quickly
Have a question about parking before you ask? You should. Southwark runs roughly 30 different Controlled Parking Zones, with hours and rules that change zone by zone. There is no single borough-wide window. The whole borough is inside ULEZ, so an electric or compliant car is sensible if you drive.
The other Southwark thing worth knowing is the selective licensing scheme. Since November 2023 the council requires landlords to hold a selective licence in 19 of the borough’s 23 wards, including Peckham, Peckham Rye, Rye Lane, Camberwell Green, Chaucer, Old Kent Road, North Walworth, London Bridge & West Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Surrey Docks, Nunhead & Queens Road and the two Dulwich wards. In practice that means most of the end-of-tenancy work in this borough is to a higher standard than it was three years ago, because the agents have to evidence the property’s condition properly to keep the licence clean. You’re cleaning to a Friday-afternoon sign-off standard. We say so up front.
