Most of our Woking rota sits inside the GU21 and GU22 ring, with the bulk of the work clustered around Horsell, Maybury, and the Edwardian streets just north of the station. We’re hiring part-time domestic cleaners in Woking at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly by bank transfer, on regular fortnightly rounds across GU21 and GU22.
That’s the short answer. The rest is the working detail.
What the Woking work actually looks like
Three rough pockets. First, the Edwardian and 1930s housing in Horsell and St Johns, the kind of place where the Church Hill conservation area starts and the lime-rendered semis on Waldens Park Road run on for streets. These are usually two- or three-bedroom maintenance cleans for owner-occupiers, three hours a fortnight, sometimes weekly. Second, the modern apartments in Victoria Square and the towers at The Marches, where most clients want a quick two-hour visit and the building has a concierge who buzzes you in. Third, the bigger detached homes around Pyrford and Old Woking, which are slower jobs, usually four hours, and the ones we pay the top of the band on because the floor area is genuinely larger.
We also pick up a steady drip of end-of-tenancy work through the letting agents on Commercial Way. Stirling Ackroyd at number 44 and Leaders at Surrey House, 46 Commercial Way, send us most of those bookings. They want short turnarounds, usually a single day between tenants, so we ring-fence one cleaner per week for that side of the work.
Pay, plainly
£13 to £15 an hour. Where you sit depends on experience, how far the job is from where you live, and whether the property’s in our easy band or one of the harder rotas. Pyrford detached jobs and the Sheerwater estate runs both pay closer to £15 because of distance and travel time. The town-centre flats around the Peacocks Centre and Victoria Place pay closer to £13 because you can do three in a morning without moving the car.
Paid weekly. Friday transfer.
We don’t do monthly. New cleaners hate waiting four weeks for a first wage, and frankly we hate the admin too.
Getting around the borough
You don’t need a car for the central rota. Woking station has fast services to Waterloo in 23 minutes and the bus network covers Horsell, Knaphill and Sheerwater reasonably well. If you live anywhere on the South Western Main Line between Basingstoke and Surbiton, the commute in is straightforward.
If you do drive, the council’s Controlled Parking Zone rules are worth knowing. The first resident’s permit costs £84 a year, the second £104, and most of central Woking sits inside CPZ 1 or one of the surrounding zones. We hand you a visitor permit code where the client pays for it, and we’ll always tell you up front when a job is a walk-from-the-station one. Brookwood and West Byfleet have their own CPZs and the parking gets tighter on weekday mornings, so we schedule those slots for after 10am where we can.
The kind of person we want
- ✓You’ve cleaned before in someone’s home, paid or unpaid. We’re not running a from-scratch training round this quarter.
- ✓You answer your phone, or you reply to a text within an hour or two. Clients ring us when something’s wrong, and we ring you.
- ✓You’ll be straight with us when a job needs to move. We’d rather rebook than have a no-show.
- ✓Right-to-work paperwork on day one, no exceptions.
What we don’t ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
A note on the patch
Woking is a strange town to clean in. It’s a Surrey commuter town, twenty-five minutes off Waterloo, and the housing mix runs from post-war estates in Sheerwater to the new 34-storey towers above Victoria Place. You’ll work some mornings on a 1930s semi near Horsell Common where HG Wells set the first Martian landing in The War of the Worlds, and the same afternoon on a one-bed flat 80 metres up at The Marches. The Shah Jahan Mosque on Oriental Road, which has been there since 1889 and was the first purpose-built mosque in Britain, is a fifteen-minute walk from the station and a useful landmark for finding the GU22 rounds. Brookwood Cemetery, the largest in the UK at 2,000 acres, marks the western edge of where we’ll send you. The Lightbox gallery is the easiest meeting point in town.
This role staffs our domestic cleaning in Woking, end of tenancy cleaning, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning rounds, so there is steady local work all year.
