The one thing that moves a price is access. A second-floor flat off the Walton Street end of town with no parking nearby takes longer to set up than a Kingsbrook new-build with a drive, and occasionally that shows up as a few quid. We tell you on the phone if it will.
Why hot-water extraction, and why it matters more here
Hot-water extraction is the method professionals usually call steam cleaning, though it is not really steam. The machine pushes heated water and a cleaning solution into the carpet under pressure, agitates the pile so the dirt lets go, and then a powerful vacuum pulls almost all of that water, the detergent and the loosened soil straight back out into a waste tank. The carpet is left damp, not soaked, and the muck leaves with the water.
That last part is the whole point. A cheap bonnet clean or a hired supermarket machine tends to leave detergent behind in the base of the pile. Detergent is sticky. Sticky carpet grabs the next fortnight of dust and grit, and the room looks grey again almost as fast as it dried. A proper rinse and extraction is what stops that.
It matters a bit more in Buckinghamshire than it does in a soft-water part of the country, and here is the local reason. The county sits on chalk, the water comes through Affinity Water, and it is classed as hard to very hard across most of the area. Hard water leaves mineral residue. When a carpet is cleaned with hard tap water and not rinsed properly, the carpet can dry stiff and dull, with a faint chalky cast in the pile. Aylesbury, the Vale and the older towns
Buckinghamshire is not one kind of house, and carpets in it are not one kind of job. There is a real split in the stock, and it changes what a carpet has been through.
North-west of Aylesbury you have the big new estates. Berryfields has been going up since around 2010 and runs to well over three thousand homes, and Kingsbrook on the other side is still being built out towards the end of the decade. These places sold a lot of carpet to a lot of young families and commuters, much of it the pale beige and dove-grey that looks lovely in the show home and shows every footprint by year two. Then there are the older towns. Aylesbury itself has streets of Victorian terraces near the centre. What the day actually looks like
It helps to know what you are letting into the house. There is no mystery to it.
We turn up in the agreed slot. We have a quick look at the rooms and the carpets so there are no surprises on either side, then we move what we sensibly can, hoover the carpet thoroughly first because extraction is not a substitute for a proper dry vacuum, and pre-treat the heavy traffic lanes and any marks. Then the machine goes over the floor, working the solution in and pulling it back out. We do the edges by hand where the big head cannot reach.
You do not have to clear the whole house. Lift the small stuff, lamps and side tables and the like, and we will deal with the rest. We pop foam blocks or little plastic tabs under furniture feet that have to go back on a damp carpet so you do not get a rust mark or a wood stain bleeding into the pile overnight.
Most single rooms take well under an hour. A full two-bed is a morning. Stairs always take longer than people expect, which is the honest reason they are priced the way they are.
