What can move the figure is the carpet itself, not where it sits. A pale wool that has had a baby and a spaniel on it for three winters wants more pre-treatment and a second pass, and we will say as much when we look at it, up front, never once we have finished. If a mark will not come out, we tell you that too. Losing ten minutes being straight beats charging you for a result we know we cannot reach.

How hot-water extraction works
Hot-water extraction is the method most people still call steam cleaning, though steam is not really what it is. The machine drives hot water and a cleaning solution down into the pile under pressure, frees the soil that is clinging to the base of every fibre, then sucks the dirty water straight back up. The grit that was dulling your carpet leaves the room in our tank. It is not shoved about or left behind to dry into the backing.
That last bit is the whole point of the job, and it is where the cheap version falls apart. A bonnet mop or a tub of supermarket shampoo will perk the very top of the pile up for a week or two. Then the residue starts collecting fresh dirt, and the carpet greys over faster than it did before anyone touched it. Extraction rinses that residue away instead of laying more of it down.

We start dry. We go over the carpet and lift the loose stuff first, because wetting grit just turns it into mud you then have to chase. Then we pre-spray the traffic lanes and any marks, and we give the solution a few minutes to do its work. Then the extraction itself, slow passes so the suction has time to pull the water back out. We finish by raking the pile so it dries standing up rather than pressed flat.
It comes out damp. Not soaked.
In a warm room with a window open, most carpets are walk-on dry in two to four hours and dry right through by the morning. Synthetic carpets dry faster than wool. We leave you a clear answer on timings for your own floor before we pack the van.
Kent homes and hard water
