Why we use hot-water extraction
Hot-water extraction is the method most people still call steam cleaning, and it is the one we trust on almost every carpet we touch. The machine works hot water and a cleaning solution down into the pile, then sucks nearly all of it back out, dragging the loosened dirt with it. A dry powder sits on top and gets vacuumed off. Extraction reaches the dirt that has worked its way to the base of the fibres, the stuff that grinds a carpet thin over the years.
The rinse matters more here than it might elsewhere. Camden sits in Thames Water territory and the water is hard, somewhere around 245 on the hardness scale, so a sloppy job leaves mineral residue that goes crunchy and re-attracts dirt within weeks.
