What carpet cleaning costs in Romford
A bedroom carpet is £36 and a living room is £43. The through-lounge is £61, and Romford is full of those: thirties semis where the wall between the front and back rooms came out decades ago, leaving one long run of carpet from bay window to patio doors. A flight of stairs is £41. Stairs cost nearly as much as a room because every tread is hand work, and there are a dozen or more of them.

The carpets Romford homes actually have
Well over a third of the housing in Havering went up between the wars, one of the highest shares in London, and you can read it in the streets: bay-fronted semis and terraces running out toward Gidea Park, Rush Green and Collier Row, which went from fields to finished streets in the ten years before 1939. Those houses tend to have proper fitted carpet, and it has usually been down a while. Deep colours in the front room, a patterned flight of stairs, and a hall that takes the school run, the dog and the shopping every day of the week.
The town centre is another world. Around South Street the office blocks have been turning into flats for years, and the newer blocks near the station and the market come with pale, tight-weave carpet that shows a dropped coffee at twenty paces. Landlord beige, we call it. It photographs well on the listing and forgives nothing afterwards.
Then there is the mud. The market has traded since 1247 and still fills Market Place three days a week, Raphael Park and Rise Park sit ten minutes from most front doors, and every wet Wednesday walks itself straight into hallway carpet.
Gidea Park wants a gentler hand. Some of the exhibition houses there date from the 1911 competition and still have wool carpet, which shrinks if you hit it hot. We test a hidden corner, drop the temperature and take longer.
Why we clean by hot-water extraction
The machine pumps hot water and cleaning solution deep into the pile, then pulls it straight back out with the dirt in it. Most people call it steam cleaning. It reaches the grit at the base of the fibres, and that layer is the one that matters, because grit is what ages a carpet.
Grit works like sandpaper: every footstep grinds it against the fibres, and the hoover only ever lifts the top of it.
A powder shampoo sits on the surface, and a rented supermarket machine tends to wet a carpet more than it cleans it. Extraction rinses. That counts for something in Essex, where the water is hard and any residue left behind dries stiff and starts collecting dirt again within weeks, so our final passes are all about pulling water back out.
We are straight about the limits. Cleaning lifts dirt; it cannot rebuild crushed pile or put colour back into a sun-faded stretch by the bay window. If a carpet is past helping, we say so on the phone and save you the £36.

Stains, and what honestly shifts
Tea and coffee usually come out. Wine mostly does, and sooner is better. Felt tip, poster paint and most food marks respond well. Pet accidents depend on age: a fresh one lifts, an old one has soaked through to the underlay where the smell lives, so we treat it, improve it, and tell you plainly how far we expect to get.
Bleach spots, iron burns and fading are damage rather than dirt. No cleaner can wash colour back in, whatever an advert claims.
Furniture dents mostly relax out with moisture and grooming. Polypropylene, which is what most of the newer Romford flats have underfoot, forgives a lot and takes a firm clean. Wool holds stains harder and gets the gentler treatment.

What happens on the day
We arrive when we said we would, walk the rooms with you and confirm the price before a hose comes off the van. Light furniture gets moved and cleaned under; wardrobes, storage beds and anything fragile stay put. Clearing toys and cables off the floor before we knock means you pay for cleaning, and none of the time goes on tidying.
Parking is easier here than on most of our patch. The semis toward Collier Row and Rush Green mostly have a drive or free kerb space. The flats around the station and the market are permit territory, so we sort a ticket or a bay ourselves, and that cost is ours, built in, never added on.
Then the work: vacuum, pre-spray the marks, agitate, extract, and finish with slow drying passes. A bedroom takes well under an hour; a whole flat is a morning. Carpets are walkable in clean socks straight away and properly dry in four to six hours, quicker with the windows open.
Halls and stairs always look the worst going in and show the biggest change coming out.
