Open the oven door in a Springfield kitchen and you usually meet the same two things at once: a brown haze baked across the glass that no amount of wiping clears, and a grill pan gone dull and gritty, because Chelmsford sits in one of the hardest water areas in Britain. We deal with both in a single morning. Oven cleaning in Chelmsford runs from £77 for a single oven, cleaned in a non-caustic dip-tank and ready to use the same day. Racks, trays and the door glass go into a heated tank in the van while we hand-clean the cavity. No caustic fumes, no afternoon with the windows flung open, and you can cook on it the minute we pull off the drive. Ring 0333 555 2076 for a firm price in about ninety seconds.

Last updated April 2026. Covering CM1, CM2 and CM3 across the city, from the centre and Old Moulsham out to Springfield, Broomfield, Great Baddow, Writtle, Galleywood and the newer streets around Beaulieu and Channels.

What an oven clean costs in Chelmsford

Price first, because that is what the phone rings about. A single oven is from £77. A double, the tall built-in kind with two cavities, is from £110. A 90cm range cooker is from £114, and a two-oven AGA from £143. Tell us what you have got and roughly how bad it has gone, and we give you a firm figure on the phone before the van sets off.

The whole kit travels in the van, so anything sat near the oven works out cheaper bolted onto the same visit than booked on its own. A hob is £23 to £28, depending whether it is gas, ceramic or induction. An extractor hood with its filter is £28. A microwave is £22. A good few Chelmsford customers add the hob and the extractor on the day, once they notice how the grease on them suddenly shows next to a clean oven.

No call-out fee. The price covers the products, the kit and the drive across the city, and you pay on the day by card or bank transfer. You also get a receipt on company headed paper, which counts for more than people expect. A Chelmsford letting agent will normally want proof the oven was done properly before a deposit goes back, and a line scribbled on a notepad will not do.

No caustic stink, no day with the windows wide open, and the roast goes back in the second we pull away.

How we actually clean an oven

Most of the trade runs a dip-tank of some sort. What separates a good clean from a poor one is the chemistry, the bits people skip, and whether the person doing it has cleaned a handful of ovens or a few thousand. Ours have done the few thousand. Here is the order it runs in.

  1. The floor goes down and the worktop either side gets covered. The oven comes off the wall and cools right down if it has been on that day.
  2. Everything that lifts out, lifts out. Racks, trays, runners, the fan cover, and the inner door glass. Modern doors have a removable inner pane, and the baked film hiding between the layers is the real reason an oven still looks dirty after you have scrubbed it raw. We unclip that pane. Most people never knew it came out.
  3. The removable parts go into a heated tank in the van, a non-caustic water-based degreaser held around 60C. Twenty to forty minutes in there shifts the lot: carbon, baked grease, the sugar glaze welded to a tray, the hard-water scale crusted round the grill pan.
  4. While they soak we work the cavity by hand. Enzyme degreaser on the walls, roof, floor and back panel, left to dwell so the chemistry does the lifting in place of your wrist. Then non-abrasive pads, detail brushes round the seal channel and the element, and a microfibre finish. The fan blade gets extra time, because that is where carbon does the lasting harm.
  5. Parts out, rinsed, dried, refitted. Door glass cleaned on both faces, gasket wiped, runners back in their slots. Exactly as we found it.
  6. A quick function test. Oven on, fan turning, handed back ready to cook on.

It is not glamorous work and we have never pretended otherwise. It is the difference between an oven that looks a bit better and one that is genuinely clean down to the element, which is where the thing decides how long it has left. Carbon caked on the fan and element is the commonest reason the rental ovens we meet at a Chelmsford check-out have already packed in, and a clean twice a year works out far cheaper than a new oven fitted.

We have seen worse. Honestly.

Chelmsford’s hard water and your oven

Chelmsford has a serious limescale problem, and ovens cop it as badly as kettles do. Essex & Suffolk Water supplies the city, and the local supply tests around 327 parts per million of calcium carbonate, which puts Chelmsford among the dozen hardest water spots in the country. Every time steam off a roasting tin or a pan of greens hits cold metal, a little more scale gets left behind. Grill pans go cloudy, door glass films over, and the chrome on the racks turns dull and rough under your thumb.

Grease and scale together are stubborn in a way grease alone is not. A supermarket spray is built for the grease and slides straight over the scale, which is why so many kitchens in Moulsham and Springfield end up with an oven that smells clean but still looks tired. The dip-tank takes on both at once. The warm water-based solution lifts the carbon and the calcium deposits off the same tray in one soak, and the racks come out smooth again instead of gritty.

The after-photo everyone actually wants: baking in a kitchen that sparkles.

You can look your own street up on the Essex & Suffolk Water hardness pages if you fancy it. We are not here to sell you a softener. We are just saying that in a city this hard, the scale is doing quiet damage to your oven on top of the grease, and a proper clean has to handle the pair of them or it has not really done the job.

Chelmsford kitchens and the ovens in them

You can almost date a Chelmsford kitchen by the cooker in it. Walk the streets north of Princes Road in Old Moulsham, around Grove Road and Hamlet Road, and you are among Victorian and Edwardian terraces, a fair number carved into flats, each with an oven taking heavy weeknight use. Much of that quarter sits inside the Moulsham Street conservation area, which follows the line of the old Roman road, so you cannot simply rip a kitchen out and start fresh. The cookers stay in long after they should, and they need the help.

Out at Beaulieu Park and the newer streets towards Channels it is a different world. These are recent build flats and family houses fitted with sleek integrated ovens that look easy and are anything but: the door glass clouds fast and the racks tuck right to the back where a sponge will not go. Beaulieu Park got its own railway station in October 2025, with trains into London Liverpool Street in about thirty-eight minutes, so plenty of those kitchens belong to commuters who want the oven sorted on a Saturday rather than a weekday.

In between sits the bulk of the city. Springfield, Broomfield and Great Baddow run heavily to 1930s semis and post-war estates, with the odd ex-council terrace, mostly compact kitchens built round a single oven that has fed a family hard for years. Writtle and Galleywood on the edges bring in older cottages and barn conversions where the AGA or the range is the heart of the room and has the baked-on history to prove it.

Getting a tank around Chelmsford is straightforward enough, which is half the reason we like the patch. There is no ULEZ and no controlled parking zone wrapping the suburbs, so on most jobs we pull up on the drive or the kerb outside and carry the kit a few steps. The one place to flag is the city centre itself. If your flat is off the High Street or near Bond Street and the John Lewis end, parking is multi-storey or permit-only, so tell us when you book and we plan the slot and the unload around it. Everywhere else, it makes no odds at all.

What the price includes

Everything below is part of a standard oven clean, not an extra once we are through the door.

  • Full strip-down and reassembly of the oven.
  • Dip-tank clean of every removable part: racks, trays, side runners, fan cover, inner door glass, plus range trivets and burners where there are any.
  • Enzyme cavity clean of the walls, roof, floor, back panel, fan, element and seals.
  • Both faces of the inner and outer door glass.
  • Hinges and the seal gasket cleaned and checked.
  • Control knobs and the front panel wiped down.
  • A function test before we go, and same-day use, because nothing we use has to burn off.
  • All products, all kit, and the drive across Chelmsford.

And the part that does not fit on a tidy list: a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee. If something is not right, flag it to the technician before they pack up and it gets put right on the spot. Spot it after we have gone and one phone call brings us back. In over ten years it rarely comes to that, but the guarantee is there so you are not taking it on trust.

How booking works

It is a short phone call. Ring 0333 555 2076 and tell us the oven type, roughly how bad it is, any add-ons like the hob or extractor, and when suits you. We price it on the spot, usually inside two minutes, and book the slot. You can also email [email protected] if you would rather put it in writing.

Most Chelmsford oven jobs land within three to five days, and same-day or next-day slots come up often midweek. Month-end is the busy patch, when move-out cleans stack up across the city, so if you are cleaning for an inspection, give us a week where you can. On the day we turn up in a liveried van with the dip-tank aboard, and you are welcome to stay, head out, or get on with something in another room. There is a bit of scrubbing noise and no chemical smell at any point. We test it, show you the result, take payment, and leave you an oven you would happily put a roast in. Not sure how bad yours counts as? Send a photo of the inside over the phone and we quote it properly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does oven cleaning cost in Chelmsford?

A single oven is from £77, a double from £110, and a 90cm range cooker from £114. A two-oven AGA is from £143. Add-ons on the same visit cost less: a hob is £23 to £28, an extractor hood £28, and a microwave £22. We give you a firm figure on the phone first, so the price on the day is the price you agreed.

Do you cover all of Chelmsford?

Yes. From the city centre and Old Moulsham out to Springfield, Broomfield, Great Baddow, Writtle and Galleywood, and the newer streets around Beaulieu and Channels. If your postcode starts CM1, CM2 or CM3 you are inside the patch. Ring with your postcode and we confirm in seconds.

Can I use the oven the same day you clean it?

Yes, the moment we leave. The dip-tank is non-caustic and water-based, so there is no caustic smell to burn off and no waiting around. The roast can go straight back in. That is the main reason people pick us over a supermarket spray and an open window all afternoon.

Chelmsford has very hard water. Does that hurt my oven?

It does, more than most people think. Essex & Suffolk Water tests around 327 parts per million of calcium carbonate here, among the hardest in the country. Limescale builds fast on grill pans, door glass and any metal that meets steam. We lift the scale as well as the grease, and the tank does both off the racks without scratching them.

Is parking a problem at my place?

Hardly ever. There is no ULEZ in Chelmsford and no controlled parking zone round the suburbs, so on most jobs we pull onto the drive or the kerb and carry the kit a few steps. The exception is the city centre near the High Street and Bond Street, where parking is multi-storey or permit-only. If that is you, mention it when you book and we plan the slot around it.

First bake in a freshly cleaned oven always smells the best.

How long does an oven clean take?

A single oven is about 90 minutes. A double is closer to two hours, a 90cm range two to two and a half. An AGA can run to a half-day because of its size and the enamel, and a fair few Writtle and Galleywood homes have one. We give you a realistic time on the phone so you can plan the rest of the day around it.

Is the method safe for the oven and the kitchen?

Yes. The tank is warm and water-based, kept well below the heat that would warp metal or lift a coating, and the cavity products are enzyme-based and enamel-safe. Most of the real harm we meet in Chelmsford ovens came from years of caustic soda spray stripping the enamel, or wire wool scratching the glass. We use neither.

Do you clean the racks, trays and door glass too?

Every part that lifts out comes out and goes in the dip-tank: racks, trays, side runners and the fan cover. We also split the door and clean between the panes, which is where the brown film you can never wipe away actually sits. It all goes back exactly as it came out.

Do you clean pyrolytic or self-cleaning ovens?

Yes, and plenty of Beaulieu Park owners of them still book us. The self-clean cycle bakes the cavity to ash but leaves the door glass, the racks and the fan cover untouched, and it does nothing at all for the hob or the extractor. Most owners run the cycle now and then and have us in once a year for the rest.

Is Monster Cleaning a real, insured company?

Yes. We are Monster Cleaning Ltd, Companies House number 9919639, trading since 2014, with a satisfaction and re-clean guarantee on every job. Our Trustpilot sits at 3.1 out of 5 across 128 reviews, which we would rather show you straight than dress up. Insurance papers go to managing agents and landlords on request.
