Open the oven door on a typical Barnet kitchen and the first thing you meet is a brown haze baked across the glass and a grill pan furred with limescale, because the water up here is some of the hardest in London. We sort both in one morning. Oven cleaning in Barnet starts from £77 for a single oven, cleaned with a non-caustic dip-tank and ready to use the same day. The racks, trays and door glass go into a heated tank in the van while we hand-clean the cavity. No caustic fumes, no waiting, and you can cook on it the moment we leave. Ring 0333 555 2076 for a firm price in about ninety seconds.

Last updated April 2026. Covering EN4, EN5, N12, N20, NW4 and NW7 across the borough, from High Barnet and New Barnet through Finchley, Whetstone, Totteridge, East Barnet, Mill Hill and Hendon.

What an oven clean costs in Barnet

Prices first, because it is what everyone rings up to ask. A single oven is from £77. A double oven, the tall built-in sort with two cavities, is from £110. A 90cm range cooker is from £114, and a two-oven AGA from £143. Tell us the type and roughly how dirty it is and we give you a firm figure on the phone.

The kit lives in the van, so anything around the oven costs less added to the same visit than booked on its own. A hob is £23 to £28, depending on whether it is gas, ceramic or induction. An extractor hood with its filter is £28. A microwave is £22. Plenty of Barnet customers add the hob and the extractor once they see how the grease on them suddenly shows next to a clean oven.

There is no call-out fee, and the price covers the products, the kit and the travelling across the borough. You pay on the day, card or bank transfer, and you get a receipt on company headed paper. That last bit matters more than people expect. A letting agent in Barnet will usually want proof the oven was cleaned properly before a deposit goes back, and a line scrawled on a notepad does not pass muster.

No caustic fumes, no waiting, and you can cook on it the moment we leave.

How we actually clean an oven

Most of the trade uses a dip-tank of one kind or another. What tells a good clean from a poor one is the chemistry, the parts people skip, and whether the technician has done this a few times or a few thousand. Ours have. This is the order it runs in.

  1. Down goes the floor covering and the worktop either side gets protected. The oven comes off at the wall and cools right down if it has been on that day.
  2. Everything that lifts out, lifts out. Racks, trays, runners, the fan cover, and the inner door glass. Modern doors have a removable inner pane, and the baked film hiding between the layers is the real answer to why an oven still looks dirty after you have scrubbed it. We unclip that pane. Most people had no idea it came out.
  3. The removable parts go into a heated tank in the van, a non-caustic water-based degreaser held at around 60C. Twenty to forty minutes of soaking shifts the lot, carbon, baked grease, the sugar glaze welded to a tray, the hard-water scale crusted round the grill pan.
  4. While they soak we work the cavity by hand. Enzyme degreaser on the walls, roof, floor and back panel, left to dwell so the chemistry does the lifting rather than your wrist. Then non-abrasive pads, detail brushes around the seal channel and the element, and a microfibre finish. The fan blade gets extra attention, because that is where carbon does the lasting harm.
  5. Parts out, rinsed, dried, refitted. Door glass cleaned on both faces, gasket wiped, runners back in their slots. Exactly as we found it.
  6. A quick function test. Oven on, fan turning, handed back ready to cook on.

It is not glamorous. It is the difference between an oven that looks a bit better and one that is genuinely clean down to the element, where it actually decides how long the thing lasts. Carbon caked on the fan and element is the commonest reason the rental ovens we meet at check-out have already failed, and a clean twice a year works out far cheaper than a new oven fitted.

We have seen worse. Honestly.

Hard water, limescale and your oven

Barnet has a limescale problem, and ovens cop it as much as kettles do. The water round High Barnet tests at roughly 347 parts per million of calcium carbonate, which puts it near the top of the table for the whole of London and well into the very hard band. Every time steam from a roasting tin or a pan of greens hits cold metal, a little more scale gets left behind, so grill pans go cloudy, the door glass films over, and the chrome on the racks turns dull and rough to the touch.

Grease and scale together are stubborn in a way grease alone is not. A supermarket spray is built for the grease and skates straight over the scale, which is why so many Barnet kitchens end up with an oven that smells clean but still looks tired. The dip-tank handles both at once. The warm water-based solution lifts the carbon and the calcium deposits off the same tray in one soak, and the racks come out smooth again instead of gritty.

Roast dinner coming out of a sparkling clean oven
A clean oven cooks cleaner: no smoke, no old-grease smell, just dinner.

Affinity Water supplies most of this part of north London, and you can check your own road on their hardness pages if you are curious. We are not selling you a water softener. We are just saying that if you live up here, the scale is doing quiet damage to your oven on top of the grease, and a proper clean has to deal with the pair of them or it has not really done the job.

Barnet kitchens and the ovens in them

Barnet is the biggest borough in London by head count, and the kitchen behind the door changes a lot depending on which corner of it you are in. The late-Victorian villas and terraces around High Barnet and New Barnet, much of it speculative building thrown up from the 1850s when the railway arrived, tend to have a proper family range that has fed a household hard for a decade or more. Those are the 90cm jobs, and they earn the two and a half hours.

Drop down towards Finchley and Hendon and the stock shifts to 1930s semis and Edwardian houses, often with a single or double built-in oven in a kitchen that has been extended into the side return. Whetstone and East Barnet sit in between, a lot of period homes carved into flats with a single oven taking heavy weeknight use. Then there are the newer blocks going up around New Barnet station and along the Great Northern line, fitted with sleek integrated ovens that look easy and are anything but. The door glass clouds quickly and the racks tuck right to the back.

The hub of it all is Chipping Barnet, where The Spires shopping centre sits on the High Street behind the twin spires of the old Methodist church, a ten-minute walk up from High Barnet station at the very top of the Northern line in Zone 5. We are in and out of the streets around Wood Street and the EN5 roads off the High Street most weeks. The Barnet quirk worth flagging is parking. The older roads near the town centre run tight and a good few are permit-only, so if yours is one of them, say so when you book and we deal with it before we turn up. The 234, 263, 307 and 384 buses all serve the centre if you are wondering how we get a tank around without a car space outside.

What is in the price

Everything below is part of a standard oven clean, not an extra once we are over the threshold.

  • Full strip-down and reassembly of the oven.
  • Dip-tank clean of every removable part: racks, trays, side runners, fan cover, inner door glass, plus range trivets and burners where there are any.
  • Enzyme cavity clean of the walls, roof, floor, back panel, fan, element and seals.
  • Both faces of the inner and outer door glass.
  • Hinges and the seal gasket cleaned and checked.
  • Control knobs and the front panel wiped down.
  • A function test before we leave, and same-day use, because nothing we use has to burn off.
  • All products, all kit, and the travel across Barnet.

And the part that does not sit on a tidy list: a re-clean guarantee. If something is not right, tell the technician before they pack up and it gets put right on the spot. Notice it after we have gone and one phone call brings us back. In over ten years it seldom comes to that, but the guarantee is there so you are not taking it on faith.

How booking works

It is a short phone call. Ring 0333 555 2076 and tell us the oven type, roughly how grim it is, any extras like the hob or extractor, and when suits you. We price it on the spot, usually inside two minutes, and book the slot. You can also email [email protected] if you would rather put it in writing.

Most Barnet oven jobs land within three to five days, and same-day or next-day slots come up often in the week. Month-end is the busy patch, when move-out cleans stack up across the borough, so if you are cleaning for an inspection give us a week where you can. On the day we arrive in a liveried van with the dip-tank aboard, and you are welcome to stay, head to work, or get on with something in another room. There is a bit of scrubbing noise and no chemical smell at any point. We test it, show you the result, take payment, and leave you an oven you would happily put a Sunday roast in. Not sure how bad yours counts as? Send a photo of the inside over the phone and we will quote it accurately.

Frequently asked questions

How much does oven cleaning cost in Barnet?

A single oven is from £77, a double from £110, and a 90cm range cooker from £114. A two-oven AGA is from £143. Extras added to the same visit cost less: a hob is £23 to £28, an extractor hood £28, and a microwave £22. You get a firm price on the phone before we set off, so the figure on the day is the figure you were quoted.

Do you cover the whole of Barnet?

Yes. We work right across the borough, from High Barnet and New Barnet down through Finchley, Whetstone, Totteridge, East Barnet, Mill Hill and Hendon. If your postcode starts EN4, EN5, N12, N20, NW4 or NW7 you are well inside the patch. Ring with your postcode and we will confirm in a few seconds.

Can I use the oven the same day you clean it?

Yes, the minute we drive off. The dip-tank is a non-caustic, water-based solution, so there is no caustic smell to burn off and nothing to wait around for. You can put the Sunday roast straight back in. That is the main reason people pick this over a supermarket spray and an open window all afternoon.

Barnet has hard water. Does that affect my oven?

It does, more than most people realise. High Barnet tap water runs around 347 parts per million, among the hardest in London, so limescale builds up fast on grill pans, the door glass and any metal that meets steam. We deal with the scale as well as the grease, and the dip-tank lifts both off the racks and trays without scratching them.

How long does an oven clean take?

A standard single oven is about 90 minutes. A double is closer to two hours, and a 90cm range cooker two to two and a half. An AGA can take a half-day because of its size and the enamel. We give you a realistic time on the phone so you can plan the rest of your day around it.

Is the method safe for the oven and the kitchen?

Yes. The tank is warm and water-based, kept well below the heat that would warp metal or lift a coating, and the cavity products are enzyme-based and enamel-safe. Most of the real damage we meet in Barnet ovens comes from years of caustic soda spray stripping the enamel, or abrasive pads scratching the glass. We use neither.

Do you clean the racks, trays and door glass as well?

Every removable part comes out and goes in the dip-tank: racks, trays, side runners and the fan cover. We also split the door and clean between the panes, which is where the film you can never wipe off actually sits. It all goes back in exactly the way it came out.

Croissants going into an immaculate clean oven
First bake in a freshly cleaned oven always smells the best.

Do you clean pyrolytic or self-cleaning ovens?

Yes, and a fair few Barnet owners of them still book us. The self-clean cycle bakes the cavity to ash but leaves the door glass, the racks and the fan cover untouched, and it does nothing for the hob or the extractor. Most owners run the cycle now and then and have us in once a year for the rest.

My oven is in a real state. Will it cost more?

Almost never. The tank does not care whether it is ten years of roasts or one casserole that boiled over and welded itself on. We only add to the price for genuine damage, like enamel already gone from old caustic cleaners, or grease that has crept into the insulation. We tell you on arrival, never after the work.

Do you do oven cleaning for end of tenancy in Barnet?

Often. The oven is the single most flagged item on a Barnet check-out report, and a receipt on company headed paper saying it was done properly is frequently what gets a deposit released. If you are moving out, our end of tenancy cleaning in Barnet covers the oven as standard.

Where will you park when you come to clean?

Wherever the property allows. Around the High Barnet end and the side streets off Wood Street parking can be tight and some roads are permit-only, so mention it when you book and we will sort that side before we arrive. Out towards Totteridge and Mill Hill it is usually off-street and no trouble at all.

Is Monster Cleaning a real, insured company?

Yes. We are Monster Cleaning Ltd, Companies House number 9919639, trading since 2014, with a re-clean guarantee on every job. Our Trustpilot sits at 3.1 out of 5 across 128 reviews, which we would sooner show you straight than dress up. Insurance papers are on request for managing agents and landlords.
