Most people add the hob and extractor once the oven is booked, because the grease that lines an oven never stopped politely at the oven door.
Why only four pounds between a £110 double and a £114 range? Width. A 90cm range carries more glass, more racks and more enamel than a stacked double, and the price difference is exactly the extra work and no more.

Two kinds of Hampstead oven
The family houses along Church Row, Holly Walk and Downshire Hill tend toward serious cooking. Range cookers, doubles and a fair number of AGAs, often in a garden-level kitchen that has fed the same house for generations. An AGA is a heat-store cooker, so it cannot be cleaned hot: switch it off the day before we come, and we work on the cold enamel with pastes made for it rather than anything that would scratch. £143, and it earns the money, because an AGA clean is a couple of hours of patient hand work.
The conversions are the other population. When the big villas were split into flats, most kitchens got a standard 60cm single, and rented singles lead hard lives. Nobody cleans an oven they do not own until the tenancy makes them, so we regularly open a door in a Belsize Park conversion and find three tenancies of roasting baked into black carbon. Those take longer. £77 still covers it.

Hobs, extractors and microwaves
The hob is £23 to £28. Gas pan supports come off and go into the soak with the oven racks; ceramic and induction tops are cleaned with a blade held flat, which sounds brutal and is in fact the manufacturer-approved way to shift burnt sugar and boiled-over milk without scratching.
Extractor hoods are £28 and they are the most postponed job in any kitchen, because nobody wants to stand on a chair degreasing metal mesh above their own dinner. We drop the filters and soak them, clean the casing, and deal with the chalky film that London water leaves on steel. The water here is hard, up around 290 on Thames Water’s scale, so every steamy pan etches a little more limescale onto the splashback and the hood. It wipes off with the right product and stays off for a while.
The microwave is £22 while we are already standing in your kitchen. It takes us minutes and it spares you the fossilised bolognese.
How the clean actually works
Sheets go down before anything else, over the floor and the worktop edge. Racks, trays and, where the design allows it, the inner door glass all come out, and the removable parts sit in a heated soak while the cavity gets worked on by hand. The products are the trade’s non-caustic ones. The kitchen does not fill with fumes, nothing needs evacuating, and you will not be airing the flat out of a January afternoon with the windows wide open.
A single oven takes around ninety minutes. Doubles, ranges and AGAs run to two or three hours. When we light the oven afterwards to check it, the first few minutes can carry a faint smell of the cleaner burning off, and that is the whole of the aftermath: you can cook in it the same evening. What do you need from me before the visit?
Very little. An empty oven, a working plug socket nearby, and if it is an AGA, switch it off the day before. You do not need to pre-clean anything or buy any products, and you do not need to sort parking; we handle the CA-H zone ourselves and the quote already includes it.
Is it worth cleaning the oven in a rented flat?
Usually, yes. The oven is the first thing an inventory clerk photographs, and a £77 single-oven clean is small next to what gets held from a deposit over a filthy one. Landlords use us the other way round too, so a new tenant walks into a kitchen that does not smell of the last one’s cooking.
Do you take the door apart to clean between the glass?
Where the design allows it, yes. On most singles and doubles the inner glass unclips or unscrews, and that is where the brown drip marks live, the ones you can see but never reach with a cloth. If a particular door is sealed or the fixings are too fragile to disturb, we say so on the day and clean everything that can safely come apart.
