How hot-water extraction actually works
People call it steam cleaning. It is not steam, really. Hot-water extraction sprays heated water and a cleaning solution into the pile under pressure, agitates the fibres, then a vacuum head pulls almost all of it straight back out along with the dirt that was loosened. The carpet comes up damp, not soaked, and it is the extraction step that does the heavy lifting.
The reason it beats the rotary bonnet method, which is what a lot of cheaper outfits use, is depth. A bonnet pad cleans the top of the pile and makes it look bright. Extraction reaches the base of the fibres and the underlay line where the ground-in grit actually sits. On a stairs flight or a hallway off a busy Bromley terrace, that difference is the whole job.

It is a couple of extra passes and a bit more time per room. It is also the difference between a carpet that stays clean and one that grays over again by the time the next rent payment comes round.
