How hot-water extraction works
Hot-water extraction is what most people mean when they say steam cleaning. Solution goes into the pile first and gets a few minutes to break the soil. Then the machine pushes hot water through the fibres and pulls nearly all of it straight back out, dirt and all. That last part is the point. A dry shampoo tidies the top. Extraction rinses the carpet through, and we finish with slow dry passes to take back as much water as the machine will give us.
One honest limit. A clean carpet is not a new carpet. Where the pile in front of the sofa has been crushed flat by ten years of feet, we can lift the dirt and bring the colour back, but the flattening stays. We tell you this while quoting, because finding it out after paying is how carpet cleaners get bad reviews, and fair enough.
Balham’s carpets, street by street
