What carpet cleaning costs in Battersea
A bedroom carpet is £36. A living room is £43. A through-lounge is £61, and Battersea has plenty of those, because half the Victorian terraces between the commons have had the wall between the front and back rooms knocked out at some point since the 1980s. A flight of stairs is £41, priced for the slow hand work that stairs always turn into. The whole carpeted area of a two-bed flat is £115 in one visit.
Rugs are priced by size rather than by room: £35 up to two square metres, £51 over. A rug gets moved, cleaned flat and dried properly, not skimmed where it lies.
There is no discount season here and no crossed-out higher number. The price above is the real one, it holds in the towers and the terraces alike, and it is the same figure that lands on the invoice.
Four kinds of Battersea carpet
Battersea is really four housing stocks sharing one postcode. By the river sit the new builds: Circus West Village filling up since 2017, the flats around the Power Station itself, and the towers along Nine Elms, where some 20,000 new homes are going in. Nearly all of them came with the same pale, tight-weave synthetic carpet in the bedrooms. It photographs beautifully, it shows every week of wear, and the good news is it takes a hot, firm extraction clean without complaint.
Between Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common it is a different century. The grid from Battersea Rise down to Nightingale Lane is Victorian terrace after Victorian terrace, family houses with carpeted stairs, landings and bedrooms on school-run duty. Wool and wool-mix turns up here, and wool gets cooler water, a gentler solution and a test patch in a corner first, because a shrunk carpet is not a risk worth taking to finish a job faster.
On Prince of Wales Drive the mansion blocks run in a red-brick cliff facing the park, Overstrand, Cyril, York and their neighbours, put up through the 1890s. Long hallway runners, big square rooms, high ceilings. And east of Clapham Junction sits the Shaftesbury Estate, about 1,200 two-storey cottages from the 1870s with narrow little staircases that we clean kneeling, tread by tread.

Hot-water extraction, and what it will not do
Extraction is the method most people call steam cleaning. The machine drives hot water and cleaning solution down into the pile, then pulls nearly all of it straight back out, and the dirt that has spent years settling to the base of the fibres comes out with it. Surface methods leave that layer exactly where it is.
The pulling-out half of the job matters as much as the pushing-in half. Leave water or detergent behind and a carpet dries sticky, then greys again within a month. So our last passes over each room are dry strokes, no spray, only suction, until the machine stops finding water to lift.

What extraction will not do is put pile back. A doorway trodden flat for ten years will be a clean, flat doorway afterwards. If we think you are expecting more than a clean can give, we say so at the quote stage, because a disappointed customer at the end of a job helps nobody.
Park mud, dogs and drying
Battersea Park sits on one side of the postcode and two commons on the other, and the mud from all three walks home. Hallways and stairs take it worst, a beaten grey path that hoovering never quite touches. Add a dog that has been rolling on the common and the hall carpet does not stand much of a chance.
Pet accidents respond to an enzyme treatment and to honesty. If urine has reached the underlay, the smell is coming from under the carpet, not from it, and we tell you what a top-down treatment can and cannot reach before we start rather than after.
Drying takes four to six hours in most homes. The riverside towers are the awkward ones, because their windows open a crack at best, so we run air movers and finish rooms in an order that lets you keep living around us. In a terrace you throw the sashes open and the job dries itself by teatime most of the year.
How the visit goes
We move the light furniture ourselves, sofas, armchairs, the coffee table, and clean under it all. Wardrobes, storage beds and anything fragile stay put. We charge by the job rather than the hour, so if you clear toys and cables off the floor before we ring the bell, the time saved is yours.
Parking is our problem, not yours. Wandsworth runs controlled parking zones across most of Battersea between the Junction and the river, we have fed plenty of its meters, and the quote already allows for that. In the newer buildings we deal with the concierge, book the service lift where the block insists, and lay mats wherever the managing agent worries about the lobby floor.
Then it is pre-treat, clean, extract, and a walk-through with you at the end. If a room has not come up right, say so and we return and redo it. We would rather honour that guarantee occasionally than argue about it ever.

Usually, yes. Fresh accidents lift well with an enzyme treatment. Dogs straight off the common are exactly why hall carpets here want doing yearly.
Will cleaning fix the grey traffic lanes on a pale carpet?
It fixes the grey that is dirt, which on the newer Nine Elms and Power Station carpets is most of it. What stays is wear: pile that has been crushed flat catches the light differently even when clean. We look first and tell you which of the two you have, so you decide with the facts in hand.
Do you move furniture?
The light pieces, yes. Sofas, chairs and coffee tables get shifted, cleaned under and set back. Wardrobes, storage beds, pianos and full bookcases stay where they are. Clearing small clutter off the floor before we arrive makes the whole visit quicker.
What about parking and getting into my building?

Do you clean wool carpets?
Yes, with the settings turned down. Wool wants cooler water and a milder solution than a synthetic, and it gets a test patch in a hidden corner first so nothing shrinks or bleeds. Plenty of houses between the commons and flats on Prince of Wales Drive still have wool underfoot, so for us it is routine work, not an exotic request.
Do I need to do anything before you arrive?
Not much. Clear the floor of small stuff, find the dog somewhere to sulk, and tell us anything you know about a stain, because what made it decides how we treat it. We bring the machine, the solutions and the dust sheets. A kettle on is optional but never refused.
