The method, step by step
It is hot-water extraction. Most people call it steam cleaning, even though there is hardly any steam in it, which always lets down the ones picturing a kettle. Here is what really happens when we turn up.
We vacuum first. Slowly, properly, because dry grit lifts out far more easily before it gets wet, and skipping this is half the reason a rushed clean leaves streaks of mud behind. Next comes a pre-spray chosen for the fibre in front of us and how dirty it is, and we let it sit for a few minutes. That waiting time is when the soil actually lets go of the pile. Rush it and all you have done is wet the floor.
Then the machine does the work. Hot water goes in under pressure and is drawn straight back out, lifting the loosened dirt with it, while a powerful vacuum pulls most of the moisture away so the pile is left damp rather than swimming. Where a hallway has a worn channel beaten into it by years of trips to the front door, we run it twice and groom the fibres so they dry standing upright instead of pressed flat.

The carpets we meet around Hammersmith and Fulham
This borough is not one type of home, and the floors give it away. Three jobs come up again and again, and each one wants a slightly different hand.
The first is the split Victorian house. Brook Green, the tall terraces along Hammersmith Grove, the streets around Westcroft Square and out towards Ravenscourt Park: big Edwardian and Victorian houses, three and four floors, most of them carved into flats decades ago. The carpet in these is usually on the stairs and the landings, and stairs are the hardest thing to clean well, because the dirt packs onto the front edge of every tread where feet land. That fibre is tough, it takes a hot rinse, and the gap between the before and the after is usually the most satisfying part of our week.
The third is the riverside new build. The flats that have gone up around Fulham Reach and the blocks along the river west of the bridge: newer carpet, pale colours, owners who would like to keep them that way. A light wool-mix shows every coffee ring and every muddy paw, so these jobs are about staying ahead of the wear rather than rescuing a wreck.
One local thing worth saying plainly. The closer a flat is to the Hammersmith gyratory and Fulham Palace Road, the more of that traffic film we find in the hall, because the A4 and the flyover never stop and the dust has to land somewhere. We see it on the entrance mat and the first stretch of hallway in flat after flat near the Broadway. It is real, it is not your cleaning, and a hot extraction lifts it out once it is down in the pile.

Stains, and what we will not promise
This is where a lot of carpet cleaners oversell, and we try hard not to. A stain and general dirt are two different problems. Soiling, worn traffic lanes, a tired grey look across the whole floor: that lifts well nearly every time. A single set-in stain is a gamble that turns entirely on what it is and how long it has been sitting there.
Some marks we shift most days. Mud, tea, food, washable drinks, everyday grime. Others fight back: red wine that dried in weeks ago, old pet accidents that soaked through to the underlay, dye bleeding out of a cheap rug, anything with bleach already in it that has stripped the colour. Bleach is not really a stain by then. It is a bare patch where the dye used to be, and no machine on earth puts colour back into a fibre.
So we give you a straight answer and a range. On arrival we will tell you what we expect to clear and what we think will only improve. Behind all of it is one plain promise. Look at a room we have finished, and if you are not happy with it, say so and we come back and put it right. We would far rather sort it than argue, because Brook Green and the streets off King Street are smaller than they look and word travels either way.
Drying times and aftercare
A properly extracted carpet is damp, not wet. Most rooms are fine to walk on in a few hours and fully dry within roughly half a day. Wool and deep pile hold more water and take longer. A cold flat with the windows shut in February dries slower than the same flat with a window cracked in June.
Open a window if you can. A fan aimed across the floor speeds it up no end. Keep shoes off until it is dry, and if you have to cross a damp carpet, do it in clean socks rather than bare feet, because skin leaves oils that show up later as fresh marks. We slip little foam blocks under furniture legs so a damp floor cannot pick up rust or wood stain while it dries off.
Done right, the room is back in use the same day. That counts for a lot in a converted flat where there is nowhere else to park the sofa.
