How hot-water extraction actually works
Hot-water extraction is the method most people call steam cleaning, though it is not really steam. The machine pushes hot water and a cleaning solution down into the pile under pressure, agitates the soil loose, then immediately sucks the dirty water back out with a strong vacuum. The dirt leaves in the waste tank. You see it. It is grey, sometimes brown, and it is genuinely what was sitting in your carpet.
The suction is the part that matters. A hire machine from the supermarket squirts water in fine but barely pulls it back, so you end up with a soaked carpet that takes two days to dry and wicks old stains back up to the surface as it does.
