Carpet cleaning prices in Chiswick
A bedroom carpet is £36. A living room is £43. A through-lounge is £61, and Chiswick has plenty of those, because so many Victorian terraces round here had the front and back rooms knocked into one long space years ago. Stairs are £41 a flight. Rugs are £35 up to two square metres and £51 above that. The whole carpeted area of a two-bed flat, every room plus hall and landing, comes to £115.
Stairs deserve a word. £41 sounds steep for a staircase until you have cleaned one. No machine glides up a Victorian flight; it is done tread by tread, kneeling, and the Glebe Estate’s narrow little staircases are exactly the sort we mean.
There is no discount theatre here. Nobody quotes you £90 then generously knocks it to £61. The price is the real one first time, it includes the pre-treatment and the machine work, and if anything about your job would change it, we say so on the phone before you book rather than on your doorstep.
How hot-water extraction works
Hot-water extraction is the method most people call steam cleaning. We pre-spray the carpet and let the solution sit on the marks, then the machine forces hot water through the pile and pulls nearly all of it straight back out, taking the loosened dirt with it. It reaches the grit at the base of the fibres, which is the dirt that genuinely wears a carpet out, and it is why a proper clean feels different underfoot from a quick going-over.
Supermarket hire machines are not useless. They are just cool, low-powered and bad at recovery, so they leave detergent and water sitting in the pile. Damp detergent left in a carpet re-attracts dirt, which is why a hired-machine clean so often looks grubby again within the month.

Wool gets different handling, and Chiswick has a lot of wool underfoot. The bigger family houses often chose wool or an 80/20 twist, and those fibres shrink or brown if you hit them hot with alkaline chemistry. We check what we are standing on, test a hidden corner, and run cooler with a wool-safe solution whenever the carpet asks for it.
One honest limit. Cleaning lifts the dirt out and brings the colour back, but a doorway that fifteen years of feet have crushed flat stays flat. If a carpet is past helping, we would rather tell you on the phone than take £43 to prove it in person.
Chiswick carpets, from the Glebe Estate to the river
The Glebe Estate went up from 1871 as workmen’s cottages, about 470 of them by 1901, and Hounslow made the whole pocket a conservation area in 2024. Lovely houses. Small ones, though, with narrow halls and straight steep stairs, so the wear concentrates in a strip a metre wide running from the front door to the kitchen. We spend more time on that strip than on everything else put together.
Bedford Park is the other extreme. The world’s first garden suburb, laid out from 1875, where Norman Shaw’s red-brick houses are now mostly listed. Big rooms, proper staircases, and carpets that were chosen with care and cost real money, which is exactly why we test fibres there before a drop of water goes down.
Down by the river it changes again. Strand-on-the-Green’s towpath floods on the big spring tides, once or twice a month the water comes over the path, and river mud has a way of walking straight into the cottages and flats along that stretch. Around Turnham Green, the mansion blocks, Arlington Park Mansions and Heathfield Court among them, give us long corridor and lounge carpets that mostly need years of ordinary living lifted out of them.
The common thread is family wear. W4 households have children, dogs and guests in numbers, and the carpets take the brunt: felt-tip by the sofa, spilt juice on the landing, the long muddy stretch of winter football at the Meadows. Most of it comes out, and the fresher the stain the better the odds.

What happens on the day
We arrive when we said we would, not inside some cheerful four-hour window. Light furniture gets moved and cleaned under. Wardrobes, storage beds and pianos stay put, because dragging those about does more harm than the dirt under them ever did.
Parking we handle ourselves. Much of Chiswick around the High Road and the stations sits inside Hounslow controlled parking zones, and we plan for that before the van sets off, meters, permits and all. It never appears as an extra line on your bill.
The clean itself runs marks first: pre-treat, work the solution in, extract, then a slow final pass to recover as much water as possible.
